THORNTON, Mr. Franklin - Age 79, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2026 at Hurley - Flint. Family hour 10:30 AM Friday, August 21, 2026, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Dr. Rev. Michael Pettigrew, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 AM Friday. Mr. Thornton will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Thursday. Mr. Franklin “Frank” David Thornton was born on January 30, 1947, in Jackson, Mississippi, to the late Mr. David Jefferson and Bettie Mae Thornton. On September 18, 1966, Frank was joined in Holy Matrimony to Eva Mae Williams. They celebrated 60 years together. He was the oldest of three children, with 2 siblings that preceded him in death, Ervin and Lela. Frank accepted Christ at an early age. The family moved to Flint, Michigan in 1966, where he became a member of St. Peter CME Church. Mr. Thornton graduated from Campbell Jr. College in Mississippi and then continued his education at Baker College in Michigan. Frank began working at General Motors in 1966, where he retired after 30 years of service. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, playing cards, fishing, hunting, cooking (especially barbecuing) and camping with his family. Mr. Franklin David Thornton leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Eva Thornton; three children Raynette, Rhonda and Franklin (Speedy); five grandchildren, Daquarius, Damenique, Damarian, Jamair, and Malik; four great-grandchildren, Kaliyha, Karmen, Kamren, and Zyon; niece, Stephanie; 2 nephews, Ervin and David; 2 grandnieces, Raven and Kamari; and god-daughter, Michelle. Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by his parents and both siblings. Acknowledgement The Thornton family would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for all the prayers, calls, and outpouring of love. One of the greatest comforts during our time of sorrow was the many expressions of sympathy that were conveyed to us in many ways.
