Mrs. Floyda Janice Dixon

DIXON, Mrs. Floyda Janice - Age 84, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, October 15, 2016 at St. Paul Baptist Church, 2115 Coldwater Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Michael Pettigrew officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Dixon will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday, with the family present from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM to receive friends. Mrs. Floyda Janice (McClinton) Dixon was born December 26, 1931, in Hughes, Arkansas. She was the 3rd of 4 children born to the union of Ira and Carrie (Smith) McClinton. Floyda began her education at Lakeview Community School in Lakeview, Arkansas and met the love of her life Charles Henry Dixon at Arkansas AM&N (currently called Arkansas State University). Charles and Floyda were united in marriage on January 7, 1954. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dixon moved to Flint, Michigan in 1955 and to this union was born 3 sons, Fred, Rudy, and Vincent. Charles and Floyda were married for 53 years until Charles made his transition. Floyda accepted Christ at a early age and joined St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where she participated in the Choir, Mission Ministry, Mother's Board, Sunday School, Kitchen Supervisor and Great Lakes District Minister Wives. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church for more than 50 years. Floyda worked at the Fair Store in the South Flint Plaza and graduated from the Mott College of Nursing with a Licensed Practical Nurse Degree. She began working at Hurley Medical Center as a LPN in 1969 and retired in 1990. Throughout her life she enjoyed cooking, shopping, bowling, family gatherings and traveling. Mrs. Floyda Janice Dixon leaves to cherish her memory: 3 sons, Fredrick Dixon and Vincent Dixon, both of Flint and Rudy Dixon of Adrian, MI; step-daughter, Rosetta Thompson of Ogden, AR; grandchildren, Deaire Dixon, LaTrina (Earl) Bray, KaWanda Spencer, Tabitha (Jermarx) Marsh, Marquone Dixon, Terrill Dixon, TeNiece Dixon and Tasha Dixon; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Willie M. McClinton and Juanita Walker; god-daughter, Stephanie Benton and family; a host of nieces, nephews, friends and relatives including special nieces, Delmaria Scott, Sheila Wells and Fay Wallace, special friends, Oris Benton, Irene Curb, Ann McCloud, Eddie Sanders and the Lacey sisters. Floyda was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. Charles Dixon; parents, sister, Myrtle Scott; brothers: Ivory McClinton and Bertran McClinton and brother-in-law James Scott. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Tommy Stevens, Dr. Waseef Ahmad, Dr. Babatunde Almaroof, Dr. Sayed Osama, Dr. Farhan Khan and Hurley Medical Center.
