Deacon Flordie B. Ellison Jr.

ELLISON, Dea. Flordie B. Jr. - Age 71, passed away Friday, May 8, 2020 at his residence. Mr. Ellison will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed Monday, May 18, 2020 from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Deacon Flordie B. Ellison Jr. (affectionately called “Honey”) was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 8, 2020. Deacon Ellison was born March 11, 1949 in Pine Bluff Arkansas, the son of Flordie B. Sr. and Charlean Wills Ellison. The family moved to Flint, Michigan to seek employment with General Motors Corporation. As a child Flordie, being the oldest of his siblings, loved fishing and hunting, going on to become an avid outdoorsman. Deacon Flordie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior encouraging others to do the same. Although large in statue he was mild mannered, still others accepted his ability to teach and train you without making you feel inferior to him. He believed that a man should act responsibly and provide for his family, which he did to the max. Deacon Flordie Ellison graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1967. He attended Mott Community College, formerly known as Flint Junior College. He enlisted in the United States Army in April 1968 serving in the Vietnam Conflict, after receiving an Honorable Discharge in November of 1969 he met and married the love of his life, Ms. Maxine Roberson on October 10, 1970. To this union four children were born, Orlandis, Teneka, Twila and Yetiva. Deacon Flordie became a member of Harris Temple Church Of God In Christ, under the leadership of Supt. T.R. Harris in August of 1974. Serving faithfully on its Usher Board and because of his faithfulness and support of the ministry he was appointed by the late Bishop Walter E. Bogan to serve on the Deacon Board. He was deeply passionate towards the need of people, working as Co-President of the Food Pantry for over 15 years. Deacon Flordie served with the present Pastor, Superintendent Eric C. Bogan. He enjoyed listening to sports radio, playing Dominos and fishing as much as possible. Deacon Flordie and his wife frequently opened their home to families in need. Many of the families that benefited from the “Ellison Hospitality” are now considered extended family. Deacon Flordie B. Ellison Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Maxine Ellison of Flint Twp., MI; 3 daughters, Teneka (George) Ellison-Urbin, Twila Ellison and Yetiva Janine Ellison; son, Orlandis (Marquitta) Ellison; grandchildren, Lataja, Shawnn, Delesia, Isiaha, Shapiro, Malon, ChiAnne, Christopher, Jequayla, Kandrea, Emmoni, Kamya, Chandler, Camren, Paris, Tyrone, Haniyah, Lailah, Alex and Simone; great-grandchildren, Kaden, Zakairi, Gracie, LaQuanna, Nicholas, Denise, JaZiya, James, Semaj, Austin, Romelle, Malachi, Zakia, Baby Chance, Zacarri, ZsaOnna, Jayceon, Carmen, Azalea and Aaliyah; 2 sisters, Vivian Ellison of Flint and Carolyn (Dean) Russell of Flushing, MI; aunts, Barbara Wills of Flint and Verda Nichols of Saginaw, MI; uncle, Joe (Betty) Wills of Romulus, MI; 5 nieces including special niece, M. Sabrina Williams; 5 nephews including special nephew, Dujuan Houston; god-daughters, mother-in-law, Birddean G. Walker; sisters-in-law, Wilma Shine and Celestine Roberson; 2 brothers-in-law, Dean Russell Sr. and Louis C. Roberson; god-daughters, Saran Marks, Tonya Brown, Niccole Canada and Shonda Harris; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Lee Knapp, LT Barber, Elder William Stone, fishing buddies, special friend, Theodric Stinson and god-son, Javon Kelso. Deacon Ellison was preceded in death by his parents, Flordie Sr. and Charlean Ellison; brothers, Herman and Carl Ellison; and god-son, Rufus Neal. The family would like to express special thanks to Supt.
