ODOM, Mrs. Fannie Mae - Age 85, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at Ascension St. John Hospital, Detroit, MI. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, August 22, 2020 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Rev. David Odom Jr., officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the chapel 10:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Odom will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Mrs. Fannie Mae Odom was born July 2, 1935 in Natchez, Alabama, the daughter of Arthur and Pearlean Burns. Fannie was a resident of Flint, Michigan. She married the love of her life January 29, 1955 in Natchez, AL. Fannie was the beloved wife of 65 years to Walter Lee Odom Sr. and from this union there were seven children. She loved and cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fannie accepted Christ at an early age attending Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church and then Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Burton, MI, where she was an active member and served on the Mother’s Board. Fannie worked numerous occupations, before moving on to work for Willow Brook Manor where she served as Union Steward and retired after 20 years of serving. She loved gardening, reading, sewing, traveling and cooking. Fannie served in many community activist positions in Flint. The Flint Police Cadet’s, Boy Scouts, Flint Northwestern Booster Club, servicing on the US Department of Justice, Flint North Center Weed and Seed, and the Flint Neighborhoods Coalition. She was a member of the East Eldridge Block Club, Tri City Van Club and International F. & A.M. Masons, Eastern Star Phoebe Doyle Chapter #199. Mrs. Fannie Mae Odom leaves to cherish in her memory: husband, Walter Odom Sr.; 6 children, Walter Odom Jr., Charlie (Lisa) Odom, Annie Odom, Anthony (Sheila) Odom, all of Flint, William (Joanne) Odom of Ypsilanti, MI and Grady (Jackie) Odom of Smyrna, TN; 21 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mrs. Atlean Biggs of Peterman, AL, Mrs. Retha Clemons of Flint and Mrs. Ruby Lee of Alabama; 7 brothers, Mr. AJ Burns of Maryland, Mr. Arthur (Dorothy) Burns, Mr. Robert (Hattie) Burns, Mr. Floyd (Dorothy) Burns, Mr. Willie (Loretta) Burns, Mr. Bill Burns, all of Flint and Mr. Curtis (Maxine) Burns of Peterman, AL; 2 sisters-in-law, Mrs. Oliva Odom of Cantonment, FL and Mrs. Sadie Wilson of Bridge City, LA; 3 brothers-in-law, Mr. Barney (Emma) Odom Jr. of Pensacola, FL, Mr. David (Frances) Odom of Newton, MS and Mr. Brady (Frances) Odom of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Odom was preceded in death by her son, Brendal Lee Odom; parents, Arthur and Pearlean Burns; father and mother-in-law, Barney and Sarah Odom; sister-in-law, Melinda Sutton; 2 brothers-in-law, Irvin Biggs and Feaster Clemons.
