CANTRELL, Mrs. Evelyn - Age 66, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2010 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m., Pastor Daniel Bridges officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Cantrell will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Monday. Mrs. Evelyn (Holmes) Cantrell was born July 30, 1944 in Tylertown, Mississippi, the daughter of David and Ethel (McKelphin) Holmes. Evelyn graduated from J.J. Gulledge High School in Tylertown, Mississippi "Class of 1964." She also graduated from The University of Michigan-Flint with a Bachelors Degree in K-12 Education and a Masters Degree in Management and Supervisory Business. Evelyn was a resident of Mt. Morris for 40 years and affiliated with King Solomon and Macedonia Missionary Baptist Churches. She was employed by the Beecher Community School district, Baker College, Jordan College and the Flint Community Schools of Choice. In her spare time Mrs. Cantrell loved spending time with her grandchildren; fishing, gardening and having a good laugh with neighbors and friends. Mrs. Evelyn (Holmes) Cantrell leaves to cherish her memory: son, Tyrone Cantrell; 6 grandchildren, Daquilla, Quantania, Tyrone, Jr., Briana, Chanelle and Jaylen Cantrell; 3 great-grandchildren, Daquilla, Jr. and Daqutan Cantrell and Gequalon Cleaver, all of Mt. Morris, MI; 3 sisters, Mae Ella (Holmes) Warren of Chicago, IL, Earnestine (Sylvester) Moore of Flint and Milisa (Kris) Bechtel of Birch Run, MI; 2 brothers, J.C. Holmes of Houston, TX and Jesse Holmes of Flint; a host of nieces; nephews and cousins; 3 sisters-in-law, Mary Lee Holmes, Ora Lee Holmes and Gin Holmes, all of Tylertown, MS; a host of other relatives and friends including special friend, Talton Hall. Mrs. Cantrell was preceded in death by her husband, Quilla Cantrell; parents, David and Ethel Holmes; sisters, Easter Lee Wilson and Maetilda Magee; brothers, J.L. Holmes, J.D. Holmes, Fred and David Holmes, Jr.; and favorite brother-in-law, William "Uncle Sidney" Warren. The family would like to express special thanks to Visiting Nurses and Hospice, the Doan Family, and the Beecher Community Family.
