MODEST, Ms. Ethel Mae - Age 66, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2005 at Genesys Health Park Hospital. Family hour 6-8PM Friday, June 3, 2005 Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 502 Leith St. Funeral service 11AM Saturday, June 4, 2005 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Louis H. Mays officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11AM Saturday. Ms. Modest will lie in state at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, and may be viewed after 1PM Friday. Ethel Mae Modest was born September 14, 1938 in Hilly, Louisiana, the daughter of Claude and Evelyn Reed. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Ruston, LA and attended Grambling College in Grambling, LA. She later married Robert Lee Modest in December 1955, and moved to Houston, TX where she resided until she moved to Flint, MI. In 1963, she joined the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E.B. Allen. Ms. Modest was a member of the Sunday School Class, Bible Class, Mother's Board and Unity Choir. Ms. Modest was the Finance Sec. for the Trustee Board. She was a member of the International F. & A.M Masons. and Order of Eastern Stars. She retired from Flint Metal Fabricating Plant, a division of General Motors Corporation, in 1999 with 28 years of service. Ethel was a member of UAW Local 659. She also worked for the Flint Board of Education. Her hobbies were traveling, shopping, and having fun with friends. She was presently employed part-time at Mandy's Fashions in Mt. Morris. Ms. Modest leaves to cherish her memories: 2 daughters, Cynthia Denise Watts of Houston, TX, Sheila Renee (Robert) Johnson of Las Vegas, NV; 2 sons, Dennis Wayne Modest of Flint, Darrell Modest of Detroit; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; 2 great-grandsons; 1 sister-in-law, Celestine Reed of Flint; godmother, Hattie Hollomon of Flint; 3 god sisters; 1 god brother; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including special friends, Louise Denson of Akron, OH, Pastor Louis H. (Martha) Mays, The Unity Choir and the Shiloh Church family. Ms. Modest was preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandparent and brothers, Harold "Floyd" "Solider Boy" Reed, June 2, 2005.
