Ms. Ethel Mearl Manning

MANNING, Ms. Ethel Mearl - Age 70, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at her residence. Family hour 10:00 Am Saturday, July 13, 2024, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Stephen Murphy, officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 10:00 AM Saturday. Ms. Manning will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday, July 12, 2024, with family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Ethel “Mearl” Manning was born August 1, 1953 to the parents of the late Hazel and Oliver in Jayess, Mississippi. Mearl was the 3rd youngest of 15 sisters and brothers. She was raised and graduated from Topeka Tilton High School in Jayess, MS. Where she played and lettered in basketball and track. After following her siblings to Flint. Mearl was employed at Chevrolet Truck & Bus, and member of UAW Local #598. While working there she joined a softball team named “The Angels” where she played 3rd base. She was truly an avid sports fan. Ethel joined Salem Missionary Baptist Church at a young age. After coming to Flint, Michigan she joined Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle. She loved the Detroit Pistons, win or lose, and would argue with you about them. Mearl never had children, but she affectionately was known as “Tee Tee Mearl” She treated all of her nieces, and nephews as if they were her own. She would buy for them, then send them home. Ethel “Mearl” Manning leaves to cherish her memories, four sisters, Betty Brown, Sara Hill, Nell Ulmer and Kepsa Thomas, all of Flint; two sister-in-laws, Lillie Manning of Foxworth, MS and Modean Manning of Columbia, MS; God-daughter, Tameka Washington of Texas; special friend, Linda Osborne, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mearl was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Hazel Manning; sisters, Nettie Grace Green (2015), and Lillie Magee (2022); brothers, Walter Manning (1949), James Earl “Pete” Manning (2014), Oliver “OJ” Manning (2018), Robert “Bob” Manning (2021) and Artis “Rico” Manning (2022); nephews, Oliver “Bootney” Magee (2024), Ronnie Montgomery (2012), Delechep Hills (2020), Robert “Number” Manning, II (2022), Corey Kimble (2023).
