HILL, Ms. Ethel G. - Age 89, passed away Monday, July 20, 2009 at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, NV. Family hour 10AM Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1083 E. Stewart St., with funeral service commencing at 11AM, Pastor Lewis Randolph officiating. Intement Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Thursday. Ms. Hill will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1PM-8PM Wednesday. Ms. Ethel Hill was born June 30, 1920 in LaGrange, GA, the daughter of the late George Truitt and Katie Swift Truitt Nelson. Mrs. Ethel Hill confessed her life to Christ at an early age. Ms. Hill united with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. L.W. Pryor. She served on the Senior Usher Board and was a true tither and faithful member until her health wouldn’t allow her to go to church. Ethel Hill was very active and a hard worker in many auxiliaries of the church. She was also a faithful member of the Elks Lodge. Ms. Hill married James Gunter and to that union one daughter was born, Geraldine Gunter. She worked at General Motors Fisher Body #1 and retired in 1974. She was a member of Local 581. The “Mink Lady” also loved working at Clyde Burtrum Furs for many years, until her health failed. Her customers and co-workers were very special to her. Whenever she had a little energy, she would often help the church auxiliaries and friends with style shows and programs. Ms. Hill worked with civil leaders, in her community, and with her friends, always giving of herself unselfishly. There will always be lasting love in many people’s hearts for Ethel because of her extreme courtesy and willingness to accommodate everyone and share in giving of herself. She was always sharing and giving to those less fortunate. Ethel Hill was known as the “Mink Lady.” She enjoyed wearing her beautiful clothes, especially her furs. Ethel has gone from a world of perpetual bliss. Paul wrote “I have a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.” Ms. Ethel G. Hill leaves to mourn in her memories: granddaughters, Schwan (Janiero) Jones of Las Vegas, NV; Katie Letrice Mitchell, Kathy Lynn People, both of Flint; great-grandchildren, Alondra Jones and Alicia Jones of Las Vegas, NV, Malayia Lewis of Flint; nieces, Paula Anthony of Flint, Phyllis (Dr. Mel) Beech of Las Vegas, NV, Janie White; nephew, James White, Jr.; godsons, Greg Simpson, Byron Carter; goddaughters, Regina Carter, Carissa Carter, April Carter, Andra Brooks; cousins, Louise (Elbert) Harris, W.C. Gates; beloved friends, Stella Brooks (like a sister), Elva Shepard, Elvia Reeves, Lottie Grant, Bessie Riley, Tina Chandler, Larry & Clyde Burtrum, Irma Urquhart, Willie Mae Lenore; Patti Schaenzer, Barbara Simpson, Rose Phillips, Jerome Hood, Paulette Simpson, Thelma Williams, Dr. Reynolds & Family, Billie Bullock, Pam Litzenberg, Bill Harris & Family, Brenda Drane, Kristine Cortez, Wallonda Mosley and Dee Tolliver. Ms. Hill was preceded in death by daughter, Geraldine Gunter; mother, Katie Truitt Nelson; brother, James White; aunt, Maggie Davis and best friends, Evesta and Bill Bell.
