BLANKS, Mrs. Ethel Mae - Age 61, passed away Friday, July 22, 2011 at Brian House. Family hour 11:00 a.m. Friday July 29, 2011 at Second Chance Baptist Church, 1950 Burr Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 12Noon. Pastor Derrick Aldridge, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Friday. Mrs. Blanks will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Thursday. Mrs. Ethel Mae Blanks was born June 6, 1950 in Sumter, Alabama, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry C. (Lela) Fowler. Ethel graduated from Middleton High School in Meridian, Mississippi, “Class of 1969.” She was a resident of Flint since 1970. Ethel retired from Delphi, a division of General Motors. She was a former member of Foss Avenue Baptist Church for many years before joining with Second Chance Church. Ethel loved her family, church family and friends. She also loved shopping, cooking, singing in the choir and serving and praising the Lord. Ethel enjoyed life to the fullest and never sweated the small stuff. She was an inspiration to all and a fighter till the end. Mrs. Ethel Mae Blanks leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Freddie Lee Blanks; 2 daughters, Angela R. Blanks and Tasha N. Blanks; grandchildren, Kiara M. Blanks, Marquece J. Blanks, Jalon M. Smedley, Tasharia and Darius Sudberry, all of Flint; 4 sisters, Geraldine Bell, Annie Pearl Fowler, Beatrice Harmon and Clara Brooks; 5 brothers, Charles Fowler, Earnest Lee Fowler, Henry C. Fowler, Jr., Eddie and Willie Brooks; sisters-in-law, Nancy Tucker, Mary Amerson, Juanita Fowler; brothers-in-law, Albert Harmon, Sr., Wiley Amerson, Harold Blanks and James Blanks; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Mary Helen Landrum, Evelyn Johnson, Christeen Cox, Pearl Powell and Sandy Ireland. Mrs. Blanks was preceded in death by her parents, Henry C. and Lela Mae Fowler; sister, Ella Mae Fowler; and brother, Tommy Fowler. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Derrick Aldridge and the Second Chance Church family, McLaren ICC Critical Care Unit and Brian’s House.
