Mrs. Essie B. Oliver

OLIVER, Mrs. Essie B. - Age 89, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Heritage Manor. Family hour 1:00 PM Saturday, December 2, 2017 at West Carpenter Rd. Church of Christ, 2296 W. Carpenter Rd., with service commencing at 2:00 PM Pastor Patrick McGovern officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 1:00 PM Saturday. Mrs. Oliver will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday. Mrs. Essie B. Oliver was born November 6, 1928 in Water Valley, Mississippi, the daughter of Willie and Laura Austin. She was a resident of Flint, Michigan and a faithful member of the West Carpenter Road Church of Christ. Essie was every one’s “Mom” at church. She was employed as a Seamstress in Chicago, Illinois for a very long time. In 1973, she married Samuel Oliver. They were Foster Parents for 25 years and fostered many children. Mrs. Oliver and her husband loved to travel from state to state, just the two of them and they loved to fish. Mrs. Oliver always had this saying: “if I pay I don’t beg, If I beg I don’t pay and I pay the cost to be the boss. Mrs. Essie B. Oliver leaves to cherish her memory: son, John Willie Butler Jr. of Portland, OR; step-daughter, Teresa Oliver-Baker; step-son, Roy (Gay) Oliver of Lansing, MI; 20 grandchildren, Tracy (LaMark) Bolton, Tina (Robyn) Davis, Tanya Butler, Rainnese Butler, Rochelle Burnett, all of Chicago, IL, Keena (Daniel) Agunbiade of Houston, TX, Johnny, Scott, Andre Watkins, Lavern Smith, Darren Young, Clora (Terrance) Snow, Rita Grant, Nicole, Essie Butler of Portland, OR, Tara (Michael) Thompson of Chicago, IL, Amber Oliver of Saginaw, MI, Jeremy Oliver and Taylor Baker; 46 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; aunt, Georgia White of Water Valley, MS; sister-in-law, Mary White; brother-in-law, Robert (Fannie) Oliver; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, special children, Tracy (Anthony) Watson, Pearl (Willie) Seward, Jennifer (Brian) Flakes, Mae (David) Collins, Earl (Felicia) Howell, Delores Taylor, Eveline Gregory and Patricia Howell.
