BAILEY, Dr. Essie L. - Age 83, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Family hour 6-8PM Friday May 27, 2005 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Funeral service 11AM Saturday May 28, 2005 at New Zion Baptist Church, 1601 Chippewa St. Dr. W.G. Terry officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11AM Saturday. Dr. Bailey will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed after 12Noon Friday. Dr. Essie L. Bailey was born January 3, 1922 in Taylorsville, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Rev. Liddell and Kennis Sullivan. Dr. Bailey resided in the city of Flint, MI, where she was a member of New Zion Baptist Church,under the pastorate of Dr. W.G. Terry. Dr. Bailey for 30 years, she served as a Sunday School Teacher at New Zion. She also served as President of the Women's Auxiliary of the Great Lakes District Association for 33 years, the Mission Union and as a deaconess. She was a deaconess. For 8 years she served as President of the Women's Auxiliary of the Wolverine Baptist State Convention. Dr. Bailey was President of all the districts Presidents of the Women's Auxiliary of the National Baptist Convention USA Inc. She was Chancellor of the Wolverine Baptist State Convention and taught the Mission Class in the State Congress. She traveled all over the world as a women's day and mission speaker. Several years ago, Dr. Bailey had the opportunity to go back to her home church as a, guest speaker for Women's Day, Shady Oak Baptist Church which was an honor for her. She has received many, many awards and citations from all over the United States of America. In 1985, She received her, "Doctor of Humanities" Degree, from the Urban Bible College in Detroit, MI. Dr. Bailey was honored for the work that she had done in the churches and in the community. She has helped many homeless children and families with clothes and food. Dr. Bailey has worked with Big Brothers and Big Sisters program. Dr. Bailey has traveled to the Holy Land, Tel Aviv, Monrovia, Liberia and other countries. She was a role model for many young ladies and women, but most of all she was a Christian Woman. Dr. Bailey leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Bobby E. Bailey; daughter, Shirley Bailey-Jones; adopted daughters, Edna (Rev. Albert) Creel, all of Flint, Azalean Young, Furtha Williams; grandchildren, Latoi Jones and Chelonda Jones, both of Flint; adopted grandchildren, Angela and Kenneth Williams, both of TX, JP and Albert IV, both of Flint; great grandchildren, T'Kal Clay, Daij'a Dunigan, Qyara Jones, Krystal Creel, all of Flint; sisters, Clara M. Squire of Taylorsville, MS, Louise Sullivan of Chicago, IL; brothers, Rev. Amos Sullivan of Taylorsville, MS, Ed and Jerry Sullivan, both of Chicago, IL; nieces, Everlean Booth, Lorraine (Ray) Bender, Essie Lee Agee of Taylorsville, MS, Lillie Ruth; nephews, Charles (Robbie) Sullivan of Birmingham, AL, Emmit (Doris) Sullivan, Al Sullivan, E.L. Sullivan, all of Houston, TX, James and Harold Sullivan of Taylorsville, MS; aunt, Ruby Burnell of Saginaw, MI; 3 sisters-in-law, Robbie Covington of New Orleans, LA, Velma Smith of Brookhaven, MS, Mattie Ruth Calhoun of Hazelhurst, MS; brother-in-law, William Bailey of Bayou, LA; many many cousins; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Merlene Carr, her walking friend, Lelia Mae Johnson, Nettie Williams-Woods, Mr. and Mrs. Geraldine Rushing, Annie Dye, Wilma Davis, Mrs. Powell of Detroit, MI, Sharon Floyd of Saginaw, MI, and all the ladies from the District, State and National Conventions. Dr. Bailey was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. and Mrs. L. Sullivan; brother, Emmit Sullivan; nephew, Liddell Sullivan; cousin, Attorney Mattie Long; and an uncle in Mississippi. The family would like to express special thanks to: Dr. George A.Kopolus, Dr. Weiner, Dr. Greenwald, Dr. Lewis, Dr. Braver and The Heritage Manor staff. The doctors and nurses at Hurley's Select Care, Genesys Medical and McLaren Regional hospitals. Mr. Carlos Gonzales, her nursing aid at Heritage Manor. Mr. and Mrs. Ocie Johnson, Mr. Channels, Mr. and Mrs. Strong, Rev. Hill, also her neighbors, Rev. and Mrs. Dixon. Special thanks to Dr. and Mrs. W.G.
