Mr. Esau R. Segrest

SEGREST, Mr. Esau R. Age 70, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016 at his residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016 at First Union Baptist Church 7004 Fleming Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery G-4413 Flushing Rd., Burton, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Segrest will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday. Deacon Esau “Rufus” Segrest aka “Big Red” was born September 29, 1945, in Rison, Arkansas, the 12th child born to Will and Celia (Poplar) Segrest. He was a resident of Flint, Michigan. Esau served under the leadership of Pastor Jewell Bridges at Pleasant Love Baptist Church. Esau retired from General Motors and the City of Flint. Esau’s hobby was fishing with his wife, his cousin, Harold and a few great friends. He enjoyed talking smack and singing at every opportunity. Deacon Esau “Rufus” Segrest leaves to cherish his memory: wife of 35 years Flora Segrest; 4 daughters, Sheila (Nigel) Ferguson of Nashville, TN, Teresa (Anthony) Jones of Davison, MI, Kimberly Segrest (Anthony) and Angela (Robert) Moseley, all of Nashville, TN; 3 sons, Gerald Segrest of Saginaw, MI, Curtis (Kaila) Sholtz of Flint and Varrick McDaniel of Nashville, TN; 10 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary Dorothy Simpson and Arnetta Mabry, both of Flint; brother, Jacob Segrest of Gary, IN; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; aunt, Virgie McNeal of Columbus; numerous cousins including, the Cox, Cuba, Poplar, Powell, Sawyer, Releford, Watkins and Wynn families; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Carter McWright, Jimmie Peterson, Terry Turner, Danny Knight and Eric Cox. Deacon Segrest was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Celia Segrest; son; 3 sisters; 5 brothers; sister-in-law; 2 brothers-in-law; and father-in-law. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Jewel Bridges and the Pleasant Love Baptist Church family, Pastor Archie Powell, Jr. and the entire First Union Baptist Church family.
