WILSON, Mrs. Ertha Ree - Age 81, passed away Monday, November 25, 2024 at Henry Ford-Genesys, Grand Blanc. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Greater Holy Temple C.O.G.I.C., 6702 N. Dort Hwy., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Bishop Roger Jones, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Wilson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd,, and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Ms. Ertha Ree Wilson was born February 21st, 1943, in Foreman Arkansas, the daughter of Alice Jane Cooper and Richard Galbreth. She attended and graduated Riverside Highschool in Harris, Oklahoma. Ertha would subsequently embark on an extensive educational career. She attended the esteemed HBCU of Langston University. Followed by earning her Master’s Degree in Teaching at Michigan State University. Ertha would oftentimes mention, “I was 1 semester shy of earning my Doctorate Degree.” She completed her first teaching assignment in Oklahoma before moving to Chicago, Illinois, where she continued her teaching career. Ertha would later retire from the Flint Community School District in 2007. She dedicated 40 years to teaching remedial reading and math at Jefferson, Garfield, Gundry and Brownell Elementary Schools. Ertha had a significant impact on students in the Flint district, with many of her elementary students reading and writing at a college level. Ertha was a dedicated member of Greater Holy Temple Church Of God In Christ. Throughout her 53 years of being a member, she served on various boards, including the Auxiliary and Mother’s Board. Her hobbies were shopping, traveling, and enjoying time with family and friends. Ertha was renowned for her immense support to those in need and always acted with high moral character. On Monday evening, November 25, 2024, Ertha Ree Wilson closed her eyes and gathered her couch about her, she surrendered to the call and went to live forever with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Ms. Ertha Ree Wilson was a loving and devoted mother to her children. She leaves to cherish her memory: 2 sons, Derrick Burris and Dexter (Sequida) Cooper, all of Flint, Michigan; 4 step-children, Christopher Wilson, Jason Wilson, both of Flint Michigan, Kimberly Wilson of Saginaw MI, and Connie Wilson Jr. of Murfreesboro Tennessee; 9 grandchildren, Deontra Burke, Dexter Cooper, Durrell Shaw, Shakela Cooper, Keyerra Cooper, Tyquesha Burris, Raumello Cooper, Dekia Burris, and Torrell Greer; a host of great-grandchildren; sister Imogene Cole of Oklahoma City, OK; 2 nieces, Karen Cole of Oklahoma City, OK and Mary Susan Cooper of Kansas City, MO; nephew, James Cooper of Oklahoma City, OK; special cousin; Arnenia Peoples-Odum; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Emma (Shirely) Davis, Ann Polite, all of Flint, and Adrenal (William) Smith of Mt. Morris, MI. Ertha was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Jane Cooper; father, Richard Galbreth; grandfather, David Cooper; grandmother, Mary Ross; brother, James Cooper; uncle, Willie Cooper; and nephew, William Cole Jr.
