HOLT, Mrs. Ernestine - Age 90, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2019 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, July 26, 2019 at Quinn Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 2101 Lippincott Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Sharinese Jackson, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at church 10:00 AM Friday. Mrs. Holt will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 w Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday. Mrs. Ernestine Holt "Erny" - Age 90, began her life’s journey through heavenly gates on Thursday, July 18, 2019. She was born January 29, 1929 in Albion, Michigan, the daughter of William and Clara Brown. Ernestine was a graduate of Albion High School in Albion, Michigan with honors as Salutatorian and President of her class. She then attended Albion College receiving a Bachelor’s Degree. She later pursued her educational desires by attending the University of Michigan where she obtained three Masters’ Degrees. As an employee of Flint Board of Education in Flint, MI, her ambitions led her to teaching jobs, where she then advanced to a Reading Consultant for 30 years until retirement. She was united in marriage to Elbert E Holt Sr. on March 28, 1958. Her family, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren were the love and joy of her life. Her hobbies included; reading, playing the piano, singing and traveling. Sister Holt’s love and loyalty for Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church was portrayed as; Scholarship Committee Chairman, playing piano for special occasions. Ernestine was a Charter Member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. in Flint, MI. Ernestine was a long-time active member of the Flint NAACP Branch. Ernestine always focused on showing unconditional love and sharing her wisdom to all those that came in contact with her. She was the most caring and compassionate person, never speaking ill of anyone. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do to enhance the lives of her husband, children, grandchildren, brothers, nieces, nephews and friends. Ernestine believed in the power of prayer, faith in God, and trust in Jesus Christ. Mrs. Ernestine Holt "Erny" leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy: son, Elbert Eugene (Darlene) Holt, Jr. of East Lansing, MI; 5 grandchildren, Bob-Bee Parker Jr., Antwuan Holt, Pierre Holt, Martha Lusk, and Amber Lusk; 5 great-grandchildren; god-son, Phillip (Roxanne) Wadsworth of Flint, MI; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends; beloved families, Wadsworth, Boone, Lee, Feaster, Bowman, Alston, Edwards, Lusk, Petty, Henderson, Taylor and Vaughn. Mrs. Holt was preceded in death by, dear and devoted husband of 52 years, Elbert E. Holt Sr.; daughter, Mrs. Deborah Ann Holt-Lusk; parents, William and Clara Brown; five brothers, Robert Brown, Herbert Brown, Clinton Brown, Fredrick Brown, and Leslie Brown.
