Mr. Ernest Standokes

STANDOKES, Mr. Ernest- Age 66, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at his residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2015 at Kingdom of Heaven Ministries, 2430 Dutcher St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Rev. Lonnie Brown officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Friday. Mr. Standokes will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday. Ernest Standokes was born May 3, 1949, to Troy Standokes and Margaret Gamble in Hope, Arkansas. He was the eldest of (13) children. He graduated in 1967 from Yerger High School in Hope, Arkansas. He completed one year of college. He later moved to Flint, Michigan with his father and got hired in Buick a division of General Motors. He worked there for 42 years and came out on total disability. While in employed by General he was drafted into the Army. Ernest served his country in the Armed Forces of the ARMY in Vietnam as a sharpshooter stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia. He received the National Defense Service Medal, 2 Over/Seas bars, sharp shooter officer (rifle M-14 & rifle M-16), Good Conduct Medal (1st Award), Combat Infantryman Badge (1st Award) Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/1960 Device, with an honorable discharge on August 6, 1970. Ernest married Dorothy Jones on October 26, 1985. They were together 39 years and married almost 30 years. Together they have 7 children, 18 grand-children and 6 great-grandchildren. Ernest and Dorothy joined the Kingdom of Heaven Ministries in 1995. Earnest served as a Deacon, Usher, Married Couples Ministry Leader along with his wife, Custodial assistant with cleaning the church and would assist anywhere in minis-try that was needed. He assisted his wife with Taking Jesus to the Streets an Outreach of Kingdom of Heaven Ministries. His hobbies were basketball in General Motors where he received several trophies. He liked to play tennis, taking his family on outings and enjoying life. He leaves to cherish his memory, wife Dorothy Standokes, (7) children: Earnest Standokes Jr., Mardana Standokes, Teffony F. Jones, Stan T. Standokes, Kalsey S. Jones, Earnest S. Jones, and Evan T. Standokes. (18) Grandchildren, and (6) great-grandchildren. Parent: Margaret Gamble. (8) Sisters: Carolyn Whitmore, Brenda (Grady) Randle, Joyce (Charlie) Ogden, Shirley Carrigan, Doris (Will) Black, Annette (Kenneth) Smith, Felisicia (Mauricio) Aparicio, and Doris Faye Murray. (6) Brothers: Eugene (Jowanne) Carrigan, David (Cindy) Carrigan, James Carrigan, Robert Carrigan, Kevin Standokes, and Clayton Standokes. Fa-ther and Mother-in-law: Robert and Lillian Eva Jones. (5) Brothers-in-law: Robert (Debra) Jones, Asa (Sylvia) Jones, Casey (Avis) Jones, David Jones, and Roy Jones. Best friend, David Perkins, Friends Sam Larry. Aaron Mason, Harry Perkins and favorite cousin Deacon Arthanus A.K.A Maceo (Joyce) Hunter Deacon Ernest Standokes was preceded in death by his father, Troy D. Standokes, sister, Wanda F. Works, and Grandmother, Bessie White. Special thanks to: Dr. Lonnie W. Brown and the KHM Family, Hurley CCU De-partment, Carolyn Larry, Delores Childs, Mary Thompson, Sharon Watt and Ruth Thomas. Additional thanks to the following for taking care of Ernest in his final days: Brothers: Clayton Standokes and Eugene Carrigan, daughter Teffony Jones, Sons: Stan and Evan Standokes, granddaughters: Seaira Duncan and N’diah Standokes, grandson, Kevon Coleman, and hospice Heart to Heart Hospice Facility. Scripture John 16:33 (KJV): One of his favorite that he stood on was John 16:33 King James Version (KJV) “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
