LEWIS, Mr. Ernest S. Sr. - Age 78, passed away Friday, May 26, 2023 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 1:30 PM Saturday, June 3, 2023 with funeral service commenting at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Rev. Patrick Sanders Jr., officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Chapel 1:30 PM Saturday. Mr. Lewis will lie in state in the chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home. Public viewing will be during family hour only. Mr. Ernest S. Lewis, Sr. was born March 11, 1945 in Morgan City, Mississippi, the son and only child of Bernice Lewis. He moved to Mt. Morris, Michigan in 1970 and gained employment with General Motors Corporation, in the Metal Fab and Flint Truck & Bus divisions where he worked for 30+ years before retiring in 2001. Mr. Ernest S. Lewis, Sr. was undeniably a well-dressed man whose signature look often consisted of a tailored suit, Stacey Adams dress shoes, Fedora hat, and a pair of stylish Cazal eyeglasses. In his own right, he was a self-proclaimed photographer who enjoyed taking pictures of family and friends at different events and sharing them every opportunity he could. Mr. Lewis was an ambitious and talented individual who fulfilled many of his dreams early in life. He was a pitcher for two local Flint softball teams, earned a jitsu black belt in 1982, and was a member of the Tri-City Van Association. Above all, Mr. Lewis loved to show off his cooking skills by preparing his popular gumbo and mouth watering ribs for his family and friends. In hindsight, his favorite saying "Ooh - Wee" is fitting not only for his delicious cooking, but also his personality. Mr. Ernest Lewis, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Sandra Lewis of Flint, MI; sons, Victor (Catherine) Lewis of Ypsilanti, MI and Ernest (Sonya) Lewis, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Karen of Bogalusa, LA; 6 grandchildren, Antoine, Brianna, and Shantaja, all of Flint, MI, Victor Jr. of Ypsilanti, MI, Meliyah and Ernest Treyon, both of Atlanta, GA; 9 great-grandchildren, Mayana, Brooklyn, Brandon, Ziona, Brentten, La'Briya, Bri'Asia, Eli'Geil, and Jeremiah, all of Flint, MI; a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beatrice (Causey) Lewis in 2000; mother, Bernice Lewis; and father, U.S. Offord. The family would like to express special thanks to the medical staff of McLaren-Flint; family and friends, Marsha King, Mary Williams, Myrtis Williams, and Teasa McKinney.
