Ernest "Bro" Horton

HORTON, Mr. Ernest J. "Bro" - Age 68, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2012 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11 a.m. Dis. Eld. Larry D. Thompson, Sr., officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10 a.m. Wednesday. Mr. Horton will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 2- 8 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Ernest J. “Bro” Horton was born May 18, 1943 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Evergene Luckado and Ernest Horton, Sr. At the early age of 11 years old his other father Will T. Fleming came into his life. He was raised and educated in Flint, Michigan, attending Parkland Elementary, Emerson, Jr. High School and Northern High School. He was employed at Truck and Bus Assembly a division of General Motors, retiring in 1999 after over 30 years and was a member of UAW Local 598. In the early 1960’s Mr. Horton boxed in the Golden Gloves in the light and heavy weight division. He trained under Floyd Fielder at Burston Field House and then went to the state finals in Grand Rapids, MI. Mr. Horton had a passion for music. He had a collection out of this world of over 3,000 albums. Mr. Horton enjoyed cutting hair, sports, and teaching someone a lesson in dominos down in his man cave “The basement.” He never met a stranger and had a great personality. Mr. Ernest J. “Bro” Horton leaves to cherish his memory: mother of his children and wife of over 40 years, Betty Horton of Grand Blanc, MI; 3 daughters, Sheryl Coleman of Flint, Sabrina and Sonya Horton, both of Grand Blanc, MI; son, Darryl Horton (Chevela Carter); 11 grandchildren, Shaquante,, Jawann, Tysheona, Diamante, Darryl Jr., Dominique, Tylur, Tatyana, Briyonna, Makaila and Tysen; great-granddaughter, Shania; 2 sisters, Doretha “Nancine” and Shirlene Jackson, both of Flint; 2 brothers, Jerry Luckado (Debra Bacon), and Henry (Andrea) Lowe; 2 aunts, Anne Lee Luckado Campbell of Flint and Clara Mae Triggs of Jackson, MS; 2 uncles, Grant (Nettie Ruth) Fleming of Mt. Morris, MI and Banard Fleming of Jackson, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Leroy Griffis, Dis. Eld. Larry Thompson, Sr., Preston Gray, Theyola “Doe” Bettis and Fred Bradley. Mr. Horton was preceded in death by his parents; and numerous aunts and uncles. The family would like to express special thanks to Hurley Medical Center and Trauma Team Center, family and friends for all of the love, support and prayers.
