Mrs. Era J. Balknight

BALKNIGHT, Mrs. Era J.- Age 76, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at her residence. Funeral services 2:00 PM Saturday, June 24, 2023 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Rev. Dr. James E. Cook, officiating. Interment, Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd, Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 2:00 PM Saturday, Mrs. Balknight will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Era Jean Balknight was born on October 7, 1946, to Rev. Dr. L.C. Cook and Eternal Bradford Cook. She confessed her hope in Christ at an early age and served the Lord faithfully throughout her life. Era was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Johnathan Peterson Rowe; and her brother, Willie A. Cook. Era retired from General Motors as the Senior Labor Relations Representative for Buick Oldsmobile Cadillac Group in Flint, Michigan, after almost three decades. Era had a wonderful sense of humor and was amazingly intelligent. She was passionate about helping people and loved to share her many talents and gifts. Era had a mighty spirit and determination that, despite her petite stature, made her quite formidable. In addition to being a fearless beacon, she maintained her “ready-for-the-runway” standard style of dress and encouraged others to aspire likewise. Era embodied her name: Her life was a period of time that had a distinct character and quality. Era Jean leaves to cherish her memory: her husband of twenty-eight years, Jerome Balknight; children from previous marriage to Eveary C. Rowe, Jacque (Anthony) Rowe Fields of Arlington, TN; Eleary (Angelica Fullwiley) Rowe, Jr. of Memphis, TN; and Tracy T. (Chandra Wright) Rowe of Cordova, TN; from marital union to Sherman R. Johnson, Sr., Sherman R. (Marlaina) Johnson, II of Cordova, TN; and godson Arthur Smith of Flint; step-children, Alexis Balknight of Flint and Quintenae Williams of Kinston, NC; siblings, Lindsay (Lisa) Cook of Aberdeen, MS; Rev. Dr. James (Diane) Cook of Aberdeen, MS; Ametria Cook-Hayes of Tupelo, MS; Murray Cook of Aberdeen, MS; and Linda Cook-Walker of Horn Lake, MS; sister-in-law, Laura Balknight of Flint, MI; and 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
