Ms. Equan Denise Bedenfield

BEDENFIELD, Ms. Equan Denise - Age 63, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2021 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:00 AM Thursday, April 29, 2021 at the Adams Memorial Guiding Light COGIC, G-5230 Detroit Street, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Victor Adams, officiating. Interment Gracelawn Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:00 AM Thursday. Ms. Bedenfield will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Wednesday. Ms. Equan Denise Bedenfield was born to Mr. and Mrs. Claudie and Fannie Bedenfield on July 17, 1957 in Flint, Michigan. She grew up on State Street in the well-known St. John neighborhood before the family moved to Mount Morris, MI in 1970. She attended public schools and graduated from Beecher High School Class of 1975. After attending Western Michigan University for a brief period, Equan decided that she was ready to enter the workforce. In 1977, she was hired into General Motors starting her career at the Coldwater Road facility in Beecher, MI where her job duties included general assembly and materials handling. In 1984, she transferred to Lake Orion and sometime later came back to Flint’s Metal Fabrication Plant on Bristol Road. In 1998, Equan was ready for a change of scenery and moved her family to Kansas City, MO to work in the Quality Inspection Department. After working for over 22+ years, she retired from General Motors on disability. Retirement did not stop Equan aka “Busy” for she was a jack of all trades! She was an Avon consultant for many years, attended cosmetology school, self-taught on home improvements. She could remodel kitchens, bathrooms, and basements, laying floors and countertops with ease, and if your yard required TLC she would have it looking like a professional landscaper had done the job. The list goes on! Equan had a vision out of this world! Anything she put her mind to, it was done! A character trait she definitely passed on to her children. As hard as she “worked” in retirement, she also took time to enjoy her favorite things. Equan was an avid sports fan! She could rattle off all the players/coaches, their stats and suggest ways on how they could improve! Her love for sports almost led to her naming her son, “Detroit” after the Tigers, Lions, or the Pistons who knows! She traveled across the country with her fellow Dough Girls teammates bowling in state and nationals’ tournaments. Equan possessed a passion for dancing from a young age and could bust a move- even when there was no music playing! She was an amazing cook and infamous for her hot water cornbread! She was a faithful servant of the Lord attending Adams Memorial, formerly known as Guiding Light C.O.G.I.C. serving in the kitchen ministry. Equan possessed a heart of gold-always willing to give her last, a strong commitment to serving others and humble attitude. Ms. Equan Denise Bedenfield leaves to cherish sweet memories daughters, Ratisha Bolin and Janine Ernest; son and daughter-in-love, Detrone and Aurielle Turner; 5 grandchildren, Aniya Ernest, Ja’Cari Knox, Kayden Turner, Kayson Turner and Jordyn Dixon; mother, Fannie Mae Bedenfield; 3 sisters, Tawanna Bedenfield, Deanna (Jerry) Boyd, and Gertrude Bedenfield; 2 brothers, Keith (Antoinette) Bedenfield and Dwayne Jones; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends including special friend, Maverick Turner. Equan was preceded in death by her father, Claudie Bedenfield; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Bernice (Gertrude) Munerlyn, Mr. Glen Smith; and son-in-love, Reginald D. Bolin. The family wishes to extend special thanks and sincere gratitude to the ICU staff at McLaren Hospital, Adams Memorial C.O.G.I.C., Second Baptist Church of Elgin, and all those who earnestly prayed, supplied food and support during this time.
