Mr. Emmitt Walker

WALKER, Mr. Emmitt - Age 82, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Clio Convalescent Center-Clio, MI. Family Hour 10:30 AM Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Greater Galilee Baptist Church, 4418 Industrial Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Rev. Andre Williams Interim Pastor officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw Street. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Thursday. Mr. Walker will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM Wednesday. Emmitt Charles Walker Jr. was born March 28, 1934 in Nash, Texas; the fifth child and third son born to Emmitt & Beatrice Walker. Emmitt attended Centerpoint High School in Nash, Texas before moving to Flint, Michigan in 1954. Upon relocating to Flint, Emmitt begin working at Chevrolet Assembly and at S.L. Walker & Sons as a truck driver, working alongside his brothers and nephews. Emmitt married Sarah Brown in 1957. Emmitt was soft spoken and quiet but loved his cell phone. He let his service speak for him doing the work most wouldn't. He took pride in assisting his brother, Howard, mowing the lawn at Greater Galilee, taking special care to mow the hill across the street from the church. Emmitt also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the infamous “Walker boys”. Emmitt leaves to cherish his memory, three children, Sonia Walker, Emmitt Walker III of Flint, Shirley Ann (Thomas) Smith of St. Charles, MO; three step-children, Toniette (Scott) Saunders, Nicolette (Dennis) Garth, Nydra Walker all of Flint; twenty-one grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Pauline Abney, Betty Daniels both of Dallas, TX; six brothers, Henry Walker, Robert Carl (Rosie) Walker, Howard Walker all of Flint, Samuel (Beth) Walker of Grand Blanc, Bennie Walker of Mt. Morris, John Donnie (Madeline) Walker of Trenton, NJ; a host of many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends; including special friends Shirley Dianne Calderon, Leatha Deloney, Lisa & Brenda Calderon and Lester Skinner. Emmitt was preceded in death by his parents, Emmitt & Beatrice Walker; sons, Michael & Tony Walker and brothers, James & Maurel Walker. The family would like to extend special thanks to Rev. Andre L. Williams Sr. and the Greater Galilee Baptist Church family, the staff of Maplewood Manor, Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, Charles Boseman, who faithfully visited him, Howard & Kierra Walker and Rose Marshall.
