JONES, Mrs. Emma R. - Age 96, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Briarwood Manor. Family hour 10:30 AM Thursday, July 2, 2020 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 w. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Freelon Threlkeld, officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd., Burton, MI. Friends and family will assemble at the Chapel 10:30 AM Thursday. Mrs. Jones will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Wednesday. Mrs. Emma Ruth Jones was born June 21, 1924 in Wortham, Mississippi, the daughter of Daniel Harris and Luceal Newkirk. Emma Ruth and James moved their family from Sioux City, Iowa in 1954. She was gainfully employed at McLaren Hospital with her last position being Operating Room Technologist. Shortly after moving to Flint, Michigan, Emma and her family united with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a member for life. Emma was a staunch believer in education and did pursue some college courses. While at Antioch Emma sang in the Choir and supervised the YWA (Young Women’s Association). She was also active in Mission Work at the church. Emma was an avid reader and one might say that she was a Biblical Scholar! She loved sewing and often times spent late night hours perfecting her craft. Emma loved dancing and she and the love of her life would oftentimes entertain their 4 children by “cutting the rug” together in the living room. She was a “hands on” soul who thoroughly loved her family and always inquired about their activities. Mrs. Emma Ruth Jones leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Ruby (Donnie) McGhee of Urbana, OH; son, Martin (Bobbie) Jones of Flint; granddaughter, Donna Ford; grandsons, John Derrick Jones, Andre Jones, Roland McGhee, Anthony Wolf, Dion Jones and James Jones; great-grandchildren, James McGhee, Roland McGhee Jr., Sania McGhee, Danielle Ford, Dion Jones Jr., Jada Jones, John Derrick Jones Jr. and Tamaria Jones; great-great-grandchildren, Madison McGhee and John Derrick Jones III; a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, James Hubbard Jones; daughter, Laurel Ruth Batson; son, James Henry Jones; parents, Daniel Harris and Luceal Newkirk; sister, Ruby Lucille Simmons; twin brother, Solomon Harris. The family would like to express special thanks to Briarwood Nursing Facility and cherished friend, Juanita Banks.
