COULTER, Mrs. Emma L. - Age 85, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Family hour 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11 a.m. Pastor Ira G. Edwards, Sr., officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10 a.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Coulter will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 2-8 p.m. Monday. Mrs. Emma Lee (Edwards) Coulter was born February 21, 1927, the daughter of Willie and Erma Edwards, Sr. She was the only one of her siblings born in St. Petersburg, Florida. Emma then moved to Meigs, Georgia, from there she came to Flint, Michigan in 1945. Mrs. Coulter was a graduate of Flint Central High School “Class of 1946.” She met and married Joe Coulter, Jr. and two sons were born; Duane and Dennis. Mrs. Coulter worked at the Adam’s Hotel as an Elevator Operator, she then worked at Turnstedt and retired from Buick Motor Co., divisions of General Motors Corporation and was a member of UAW Local 599. Mrs. Coulter was a member of New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, where the late Bishop Odis Floyd was pastor. She sung briefly with the Inspirational Voices. Emma enjoyed cooking, bowling, dancing, wearing her hats and her favorite color was red. She also loved working in her yard. Mrs. Emma Lee Coulter leaves to cherish her memories; son, Duane (Carlin Bailey); 5 grandchildren, Duanita, Shari, Shawn, Franchon and Kullen; god-grandchildren, Sandy Garth and Elijah Garth; step-granddaughter, Sheila Lowe; half-brother, Mitchell Cox of Jacksonville, FL; sisters-in-law, Lucille Edwards and Helen Edwards, all of Flint; daughter-in-law, Lillie Garth; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friend Bernice Reeves. Mrs. Coulter was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Coulter, Jr.; son, Dennis Coulter; parents, Willie and Erma Edwards, Sr.; sisters, Marie and Catherine; brothers, Earnest, Jimmie Sr. and Willie Jr. “Buddy.”; uncle, Rev. Julius McClain, who was founding pastor of Greater Galilee Baptist Church; mother and father-in-law, Joe and Corean Coulter, Sr.; sister-in-law, Mary; and brother-in-law, Bartow Sr. The family would like to express special thanks to Carlin Bailey, Juanita Vaughn, Kimmie Tyler, her daughter-in-law, Lillie Garth, Genesys Health Park, Genesys Convalescent and Genesys Hospice.
