Ms. Emily Jean Young

YOUNG, Ms. Emily Jean - Age 71, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2024, at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 1:30 PM Saturday, November 9, 2024, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd., Burton, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 PM Saturday. Ms. Young will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed during the family hour only. Emily J. Young was born February 21, 1953, in Flint Michigan to Edward L. Young and Georgia E. (Gardner) Young both deceased. She was one of nine brothers and sisters. Emily lived and grew up at 812 E. Baltimore before being placed at the Lapeer State Home and Training Center. Before this facility closed Emily was placed in her first community group home. Emily was always kindhearted and enjoyed family and almost everyone she encountered. Emily was especially loving to her mother Georgia, sister Era Mae and the primary caretakers at the assisted living residences where she lived. Mischievously, as her mother and sister aged while caring for Emily she adeptly learned to wait for them to fall-asleep or go away to perform errands to assert her independence and become head-of-household and help herself to any treat she could locate. Also, throughout life Emily was not hesitant to tell on others. Emily loved listening to music, watching The Jackson 5 (Michael Jackson) music videos and dancing. Emily enjoyed completing jigsaw puzzles, going-to-the-movies, eating-popcorn-at-the-movies, watching TV, bowling, independently-staying-at-Clio-Bowl, car-trips, visiting anyone, hamburgers with no-pickles-no-onions, chocolate-shakes with no-whip-topping and any diet soda. Emily disliked hospitals, hospital beds, doctor offices and air travel. Emily worked for many years at Freedom Work Opportunities, Inc an organization for adults with disabilities until she could no longer in 2020. Emily Young departed this life on Saturday October 26, 2024. God said, “whoever believes in Him should not perish”. Emily’s memorized hymnal, Jesus Loves Me starts with; “Jesus loves me! This I know”. Finally, Emily instead of being placed, moved to God’s heavenly community. Emily was preceded in death by: Edward Young (father), Georgia Young (mother), Donald Young (brother), Robert Young Sr. (brother), Gail Threats (sister-in-law), Era Mae Woods (sister), Willie Woods (brother-in-law), Michelle Powell (niece), Leonias Young (nephew) and Shavonne Earnest (niece). Emily J. Young leaves to cherish her memories: siblings Jean Powell (Roosevelt - deceased), Darlene Earnest (Elton - deceased), Gerald Young (Crystal), Arthur Earl Young and Arnold Young (Cecilia); nephews Marcus Powell (Lisa) Norfolk VA, Dennis Powell (Lajaunda), Devin Powell (Paulette), Robert Young Jr., Raymond Young (Donna), Sherrick Young (Elisa) San Tan Valley AZ, and Darius Young Sr.; nieces Denise Willis (Floyd), Tawanna Young (Prince Rothchild – Shalonzee) Perrysburg OH, Bernadette Woods Detroit MI, Sherry Woods, Sonya Anderson (Deon), Turquoise Hodge (Sammie Galloway) and Teea McDonald (Scott); a host of cousins, in-laws and friends.
