DIXSON, Pastor Emeritus H.B. - Age 89, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 8, 2017 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 11:00 AM Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2109 M.L. King Ave., with funeral service commencing at 12:00 PM Pastor Rodney Ellison, officiating. Interment 10:30 AM Monday, April 17, 2017 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00 AM Saturday. Pastor Emeritus Dixson will lie in state at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and may be viewed from 1:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday, with the family present from 1:00PM - 5:00 PM to receive friends. Pastor Emeritus Herbert B. Dixson was born to Ruth and Hurley Dixson, on April 1st, 1928. In Dubach, Louisiana. Pastor Dixson moved to Flint at a young age, where he resided over 75 years. In 1959 he married in holy matrimony, the love of his life, Artie (Taylor) Dixson; whom he affectionately called “Baby”. They were married for 63 years. He was a wonderful, loving and devoted husband. They have 4 children: Darrell Dixson, H.B. Dixson Jr., Artie Dixson-Tyler and Toni Dixson-Buford. He was a strong, loving and supporting father and grandfather like none other. He showed dedicated love to his Dixson and Taylor families. No church anywhere could touch his heart like the Mt. Zion family, where he LABORED tirelessly, consecutively and unselfishly with every fiber of him. HE SIMPLY LOVED EVERY member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Emeritus Dixson leaves in God’s care: loving wife of 63 years, Artie Dixson of Flint; children, Darrell (Carol) Dixson of Manistique, MI, H.B. Dixson Jr. of Rochester, MI, Artie Dixson- Tyler of Flint, Toni (Daryl) Buford of Saginaw, MI; grandchildren, Kevin (Tonya) Dixson of Flushing, MI, Keith (Stacy) Dixson of Flint, Tova (Sam) Jones of Grand Rapids, MI, Tonia Brantley of Saginaw, MI; great-grandchildren, Keith (Jennifer) Dixson of Kalamazoo, MI, Kalen Dixson, MI], Keinyi Dixson, Kristina Dixson all of Flint; and two great-great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Dixson and Korey Dixson both of Kalamazoo, MI; sister, Lela (John) Harvey of Flint; sister-in-love, Dezaree Newman of Indianapolis, IN; brothers-in-loves, Matthew Taylor and James Taylor both of Flint; nieces, Pastor Ruth D. Harvey of Manchester, NJ, Deborah (John) Butler of Milwaukee, WI, Vann Johnson of Beverly Hills, CA, Mattlon (Pete) Roberts, Sophia Taylor all of Flint, Tynicia Newman- Pruitt of Fort Drum, NY; nephews, Chester Dixson Jr. of Detroit, MI, John Harvey III of Washington, DC., Mark Dixson of Ypsilanti, MI, Richard Todd Newman of Chicago, IL, Tyrone Newman of Greenwood, IN, Mark Taylor, Nathan Heron, Grant Heron and Tony Watts all of Flint; god-children, Cheryl (William) Harrison of Richmond, VA; special cousins, Pastor Jessie B. Bilberry of Baton Rouge, LA, and Charlie Bilberry of Southfield, MI; and a host of great-nieces, nephews and cousins and friend including special Pastoring friends, Pastor Clifton Rhodes, Pastor Marvin Jennings, Pastor James O. Flowers, Pastor Charles Roots, Pastor Henry Fuller, and Pastor Roosevelt Austin. Pastor Emeritus Dixson pastored Mt. Zion 42 years until March 15, 2009, as God instructed him to retire. He continued worshipping and attending Bible Class until his health failed him. Dr. Dixson attended the Toledo Bible College and General Motors Institute (GMI) now known as Kettering University. He received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Theological Baptist Seminary (TBS) in Nashville, TN. He was extremely involved in the Concerned Pastors of Flint, Great Lakes District Baptist Association, the chairman of Flint’s simultaneous Revival for numerous years, and chairman of the Great Lakes Evangelistic Committee. He was a Lecturer, Clinician, and Teacher in the Wolverine Baptist Convention, the Wolverine State Congress, the National Baptist Congress, and the National Baptist Convention. He exemplified a positive Christian life in our community, state, and country. Pastor Emeritus Dixson never met a stranger. He was friendly, warm and kind to everyone. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Dixson, Hurley Dixson, and Christine Dixson; brothers, James Dixson, Chester Dixson and Theodore Dixson; sister, Corine Scarzone; and Nephew, Mark Dixson Sr. The family would like to express special thanks to Sierra Ward-Chase, McLaren-Flint ICU, Dr. Pandrigne, Pastor Rodney & Lady Cassandra Ellison, and the entire Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church family. Pastor Dixson was INFAMOUS for this expression “DON’T FOOL ME NOW”.
