Mrs. Elvira Henry

HENRY, Mrs. Elvira - age 94, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2014 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, 5175 E. Bristol Rd., Burton, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Friday. Mrs. Henry will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12 p.m-8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. Mrs. Elvira (Moore) Henry transitioned from this life on June 10, 2014. Elvira was born December 1, 1919 in Smithville, Georgia, the daughter of Eugene & Sarah Bethany (Thomas) Moore. She accepted Christ at an early age at the Midway Baptist Church in Smithville, GA. In 1948 Elvira moved to Flint, MI and joined the New Zion Baptist Church where she was also a member of the choir. Elvira was the last surviving of 6 children. After moving to Flint, Elvira united in Holy Matrimony with Arthur Lee Henry on April 9, 1949; together they enjoyed gospel music, larger family closeness and music-making. Elvira offered a free outpouring of love for those whom she knew, and for those who knew her as the gentle spirit that she was. Her quietly lived spiritual life sustained her through ninety-four years, with serious health matters being battled in most recent times. Mrs. Henry had a beautiful smile that would light up any room that she occupied. “Myrie,” as she was affectionately known, was a Homemaker and accomplished Seamstress, even skilled at making her own patterns from which to sew. “Myrie” took great pride in baking her famous teacakes and preparing her well-loved lemonade for her guests. Mrs. Elvira (Moore) Henry was preceded in death by: her devoted husband, Deacon Arthur Lee Henry; parents, Eugene & Sarah Bethany (Thomas) Moore; siblings, Roceli, Mary, Annie, Mary L and James; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends survive including special friends, Dorothy Hubbard and Betty Straham. The family would like to give special thanks to Lawrence & Marcia Ratliff (niece), for being her caregivers for many years.
