Elvin Irby

IRBY, Mr. Elvin, Sr.- Age 61, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2005 at Select Specialty Care. Family hour 10:30AM Saturday, October 29, 2005 at Vernon Chapel AME Church, 5802 Dupont St., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11:00AM. Rev. Roosevelt Brown, officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Saturday. Mr. Irby will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Mr. Elvin Irby, Sr. was born on October 2, 1944 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the son of Jasper and Morell Irby, Sr. Elvin graduated from Flint Central High School. In May of 1969, he was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army. While in the Army, he served as Staff Sgt., during the Vietnam War. Elvin loved his two sons and six grandchildren very dearly, they were the light of his life. He enjoyed life and being with his family and friends at the Chevrolet Engine Plant and the Nifty Fifty Social Club until becoming ill. Mr. Elvin Irby, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory: 2 sons, Elvin (Monique) Irby, Jr., and Ecouvillon (Kimberly) Irby; grandchildren, Kameron Hopkins-Irby, Brandon Almarius-Irby, Elexis Chandanais-Irby, Ecouvillon Irby II, Jatavion Irby, Elvin Irby III; step-granddaughter, LeAngel (Angel) Heard; sister, Winifred Irby-Baxter; 2 brothers, Joseph Johnson, Jasper Irby, Jr.; many nieces including, Sibyl Jackson, Kimberly (Arnold) Baxter Brown, India Irby; many nephews including, Winston (Linda) Stephens, Jewell Baxter, Jr., Sean Baxter, and Jason Irby; 2 aunts, Florida (Morris) Mae Johnson of Mt. Morris, and Georgia Irby of Los Angeles, CA; uncle, Arnese (Lois) McAfee of Saginaw; a host of cousins; mother and father-in-law, Lillie B. and Samuel J. Motley, Sr.; sister-in-law, Louvenia Lindsey; 3 brothers-in-law, Marvin N. Logan, Nevelin E. Logan, Jr., Keith (Ajamu Tyehimba) Logan; a host of other relatives and friends including special friend of 25 years, Peggy Reeves; soulmate and mother of his two sons, Estella Irby-Simpkins, friends, John Hamlin, and Jessie Johnson. Mr. Elvin Irby, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Morell Irby, Sr.; grandfather, Joseph (Poppa) McAfee.
