DUDLEY, First Lady Elton "Eva" - Age 74, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2015 at Detroit Street Church Of God, G-5328 Detroit St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Bishop L. Earl Stewart, Host Pastor. Elder Gregory Cavette, Eulogist. Interment 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2015 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Friday. First Lady Dudley will lie in state at Detroit Street Church Of God, and may be viewed from 12 p.m.- 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Mother Elton "Eva Dudley was born March 20, 1941 in Meridian, Mississippi to the late Annie Laura Thompson. God laid it on the hearts of Moses Turner and his beloved wife Daisy to adopt Mother Dudley so she could have a better life. She attended Madison County Schools. At an early age the family relocated to Flint, Michigan, where she attended Lowell Junior High and was a graduate of Northern High School. After graduation she attended classes teaching her to sew, knit crotchet, macrame’ and other crafts. These skills allowed her to teach young women when the opportunity arose. On August 29, 1958 Mother Dudley united in Holy Matrimony with Herbert Dudley, to this union three children were born. She was a stay-at-home mom until their oldest child was 12 years old. In 1971, Mother Dudley worked for American Sunroof Corporation and retired from Genesee Packaging in 1996. Mother Dudley was a faithful and dedicated member of Detroit Street Church of God, Sanctified, where she was Sunday School Treasurer, Treasurer of the Usher Ministry and a Mother of the church. She attended services regularly until her failing health made it impossible. Mother Elton (Eva) Dudley leaves to cherish her memory: loving daughter, best friend and caregiver, Lawanna Renee Dudley-Thomas; 4 grandsons, grandson/caregiver, Jason Dudley of Flint, DeMarcus Batson, Rapheal Batson of Morganfield, KY and Dominique Batson; granddaughter, Jasmine Thomas of Flint; 2 great-grandsons, Khamari Dudley of Raleigh, NC and Kayvon Batson of Flint; sister, Mildred (Charles) Lindsey of Carson, CA; 2 brothers, Robert (Prissie) Jenkins of Santa Clarita, CA and Milton (Regina) Jenkins of Carson, CA; 2 brothers-in-law, Cleveland Dudley and Jimmy (Joy) Norton; sister-in-law, Warnell Griffin; a host of other relatives and friends. Mother Dudley is preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Bishop Herbert Dudley; son, Herbert Dwayne Dudley; daughter, Daisy Bell Dudley-Batson; grandson, Leroy Batson; parents, Moses and Daisy Turner; brother, Ulysses “Pete” Robinson; birth mother, Annie Laura Jenkins; father and mother-in-law, Cephus Dudley Jr. and Beatrice Dudley.
