Mr. Elroy Cox

COX, Mr.Elroy - Age 83, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Ascension Genesys Hospital. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Saints of God Church, 2200 Forest Hill Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Alfred Harris Sr., officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Cox will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday. Mr. Elroy Cox was born an identical twin August 30, 1935 in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of Willie and Ossie Cox. Elroy accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and attended Little John Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. He was raised on a farm and attended Shelby County Training School in Woodstock, TN. Elroy moved the Flint, Michigan, where he met his wife, Thelma Jean Cox. He was employed at Flint Truck & Bus, a division of General Motors Corporation for many years. Elroy raised his children by himself after the passing of his wife. He loved to cook and kept a clean and neat home inside and out. Elroy was obsessed with keeping his cars washed and vacuumed year round. Every weekend he went fishing with his brothers. He loved sports, especially the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Pistons, and his TV Girlfriend, Judge Judy. Elroy was a great father but most of all he loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was the neighborhood father for many children. His favorite saying was “Hang tuff in the cuff until you get enough.” Mr. Elroy Cox leaves to cherish his memory: 5 daughters, Sharee Cox, Tamika Cox (Fonda Jackson), all of Flint, Lakisa Jones of Champaign, IL, Amandra Jones and Trisha Jones; 2 sons, Tyrone (Tanya) Cox and Bryant Cox, all of Flint; grandchildren, Dequindre Cox, Tyrone Cox Jr., Teyana Cox, Tyeisha Cox, Quame’ Jones, John Jones, Dana Jones, LaZariah Jones, all of Flint, Keveya Cox of Mobile, AL, Ladaysia Jones, Gavon Jones, Larry Hilson Jr., Brandon Jones and Kaylijah Jones, all of Champaign, IL; great-grandchildren, Temariyoh Cox, JaMarie Cox, Jayden Washington, JaMiere Washington, Kayona VanBuren, MaLaya Cox, Nasir Cox, all of Flint, Kamron Williams, Kahlil Williams and Khyree Williams, all of Mobile, AL; 4 sisters, Ossie Hill of Los Angeles, CA, Jean Cox of Toledo, OH, Ora Mae Cox of Flint and Ellawece Jones of Memphis, TN; brother, David Cox of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Cox was preceded in death by wife, Thelma Jean Cox; 2 daughters, Tanya and Dina Cox; parents, Willie and Ossie Cox; and 6 brothers.
