Mr. Elliott Jones

JONES, Mr. Elliott - Age 68, passed away Monday, June 10, 2013 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Steve Hawkins officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Monday. Mr. Jones will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Elliott Julius Jones was born April 29, 1945 in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of Eloise and Julius Jones. Elliott was a resident of Flint. He was a graduate of Southwestern, "Class of 1963" and Wilberforce University. Elliott served as a Vietnam Veteran and received an Honorable Discharge. Mr. Jones was the owner of Northeast Construction and was employed by the Flint Board of Education and General Motors. He attended Elshaddai C.O.G.I.C. and Eliezer C.O.G.I.C., and enjoyed singing, sports and cooking. Mr. Elliott Jones leaves to cherish his memory: 8 children, Eliott Jones Jr. (Jenny); James Jones, Janise Jones, Ahsara Jones, Brandy Newman, Estee Newman, Derekus Newman and Sharnise Newman; 4 step-children, Darletta, Lenny, Daquondra and Daquonte; 9 grandchildren, Marqula, Brionna, Alex, Jaylen, Jashara, Tariah, Jaya, Jada, Elliott and a host of adopted grandchildren; twin sister, Eleanor Bentley “Nen”; sister Doris Hawkins and God-sister, Nuana Dunlap; brothers, Christopher Carter and Pastor Steve Hawkins; niece, Ayunna Bentley; great-nieces, Kamira, Are’onna, Brionna, Karme; God-niece, TaJuana King; nephews, Darwin Copeland; great-nephews, Taray, Davis, Darwin (Duppy) Christopher and God-nephew, Bruce Raymond King Jr.; a host of nieces and nephews and cousins; aunts, Meriah Shine, uncle, Winford Carter; cousin, Warren Smith and special cousin Christine Tyler; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Shirley Grisby, Thickpin, Maurice Godwin, Jerry Wilson, Rausoul, Joyce Richardson, Cassandra Nelson, Kolaka Pennyman, Joe and the mother of his children, Shirley Newman. Mr. Elliott Jones was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ruth Jones; uncles, Warren Carter and Jimmy Carter Washington; grandmother, Abezee Carter and cousin, Patricia Harris.
