Mrs. Ella Mae Bethay

BETHAY, Mrs. Ella Mae - Age 86, passed away Friday, January 19, 2018 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital-New Brunswick, New Jersey. 10:30 AM, Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Foss Avenue Baptist Church, 1159 E. Foss Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Reginald Flynn, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Wednesday. Mrs. Bethay will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2:00 PM-8:00 PM Tuesday. Ella Mae Stubbs-Bethay was born June 8, 1931 in Nashville, Georgia, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Samuel Stubbs. She departed this life on January 19, 2018. Ella’s service and devotion to the church began at an early age where she joined Manuel Baptist Church o Nashville, GA. She served until that family moved to Flint, Michigan. Ella united with Foss Avenue Baptist Church in 1960 continuing to serve her Lord and Master. She served on the Trustee Board, Nurses Guild, President-Senior Usher, Assistant Supervisor U.F.S.C. Ushers, Kitchen Committee and other various capacities of the church. Ella loved to work in her garden with flowers, cooking for her family and everyone. She also was an avid bowler. Ella Mae Stubbs-Bethay leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Glistene Bethay of Linden, NJ; 4 sons, Russell (Rosa) Bethay of Davison, MI, Alfronzo (Patricia) Bethay of Indianapolis, IN, Anthony Wright of South Dakota and T’Angelo Bethay of Linden, NJ; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Paulette (Vincent) Morgan of Middletown, NY, Marilyn Stubbs of Albany, NY and Christine Stubbs Owens; 6 brothers, George (Carolyn) Stubbs, Jerome (Belinda) Stubbs, Nathaniel Stubbs, Leon Stubbs, all of Fayetteville, NC, Donald Stubbs of Lumberton, NC and Jermiah Stubbs of Atlanta, GA; special brother-in-law, Saul Bethay. Ella was preceded in death by her daughters, Lavon Bethay and Francis Bethay; parents, Mr. & Mrs. Samuel Stubbs; sisters, Dorothy Pruitt and Hazel Smith; and brothers, Walt Henry, Nella White, Ralph White and Bobby White.
