BROWN, Mrs. Elizabeth - Age 89, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, November 22, 2024 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home. 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment, Gracelawn Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the chapel 10:00 AM Friday. Mrs. Brown will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home. Public viewing will be during family hour only. Elizabeth Brown, affectionately known as “Momma”, “Grandmama” and “Sista Brown” was born to parents (the late) Johnny Arthur & Frances (Washington) Williams on April 17, 1935, in Vicksburg, Mississippi. God has always been the head of her life. You would often hear her say “God is probably saying this is the most begging woman” because she earnestly prayed and called on the Lord every second for herself, her husband, and her entire family, as well as everyone around her. She was the epitome of a mustard seed of faith. She had a kind and loving spirit, filled with unconditional love. Her light shined through her actions. Elizabeth Brown married Oscar Lee Brown, whom she affectionately called “Stick” and they had a joyful union for what would have been 73 years on December 15, 2024. To her devoted husband, she was affectionately known as “Lizzie.” Together they shared priceless memories and raised many generations of beautiful souls, including 8 children, more than 30 grandchildren, more than 70 great grandchildren, and more than 50 great-great grandchildren. They enjoyed watching ball games together, and game shows such as Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. They also supported and attended celebrations, accomplishments, and milestones for their kids, and all the grands. Her great passion for family that extended to multiple generational relationships will always be remembered. Elizabeth was a faithful servant of the Lord and was a member of First Corinthian Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Henderson Lee since the 1970’s. She enjoyed attending church, and her life was full of prayer. She loved the Lord, and her family, and she enjoyed caring and loving for others. She loved cooking and was unmatched in the kitchen. She enjoyed playing Five Thousand with her daughters. Equally as important, she enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, great grandkids, and great-great grandkids. Elizabeth was a firm fixture in a multitude of lives, as she was the village that helped raise many generations of children. She instilled many positive attributes and good ethics in a plethora of generations that extend beyond her own children. A strong commitment to serving others was always displayed through her actions. Her heart, door and arms were always open, as she lived a life full of loving deeds. She will truly be missed by all. Elizabeth leaves to cherish sweet memories, loving husband of nearly 73 years, Oscar Lee Brown; 6 daughters: Shirley Ezell, Dolores (Alfonso) Marks, Annette (Warren) Marks, Daphne Hurt, Brenda Anderson, and Denise Hairston. One daughter in love, Antoinette Brown; 5 brothers: Archie (Jessie) Williams, Eddie (Margaret) Williams, Clarence Williams, Percy Williams, and Marion (Mallory) Williams. A host of special relatives and dear friends, including close friends, Reverend & Sister Lee, Sister Essie Ivy, and Brother & Sister Reed. Elizabeth was preceded in death by parents, Johnny Arthur & Frances Williams; sons, Arthur Brown, and George “Joe” Brown; sisters, Pearl Johnson, Luella Morris, Alberta Martin, and Rosie Brown; brothers, Arthur Williams, and Robert Williams; and grandson, Reko Brown. The family wishes to extend special thanks and sincere gratitude to Dr. Abdullah Raffee and the Neuro-ICU staff at McLaren Hospital and all who earnestly prayed, supplied food, support, comforting words and any thoughts or acts of kindness.
