Mr. EJ Coleman

COLEMAN, Mr. EJ - Age 80, passed away January 14, 2016 at Crestmont Nursing Care Center - Fenton, MI. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2016 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Mr. Coleman will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday. Mr. EJ “Squabbler” Coleman was born September 2, 1935 in Columbus Georgia the son of late Mr. Jim Byrd and Ms. Ruthie Coleman. He attended Claflin Middle School and was a graduate of Spencer High school. In 1953, at the age of 18, EJ decided to move to Flint. He immediately found employment at General Motors, and was a dedicated employee until his retirement. EJ loved watching ‘Bonanza’ and ‘Rawhide’ when at home, probably with some pork skins and a cola next to him. He loved making people laugh, playing cards, and fishing but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Mr. EJ “Squabbler” Coleman leaves to cherish his loving wife, Deborah Denise Coleman; 2 daughters, Dinecia Coleman of Kent, Washington and Edrinne Coleman of Davison, MI; 8 sons, Melvin Byrd of Pontiac, MI, Otis McNair, Stanley Coleman, Kurtis Coleman, Delvon (Kendra) Chambers all of Flint, Cartrell, Roman and Adrian Coleman all of Fort Wayne, IN; 31 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Elvira Moore of Flint, Debra (Carl) Hurt, Dora Byrd, and Jacqueline (Willie) Lester all of Milledgeville, GA; 2 brothers, Overson Jackson of Columbus, Ga and Jimmy Byrd of Milledgeville, GA; mother-in-law, Doris Buford of Fort Wayne, IN; aunt, Mary Saulsberry; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Peter Gun, Mose, and Tommy Dotson. Mr. Coleman was preceded in death by his parents, Ms. Ruthie Coleman, Mr. Jim and Elvira Byrd; sister, Mary (Byrd) Harper; sister-in-law, Mildred Jackson; and brother-in-law, William Moore. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of both Crestmont Rehabilitation Center - Fenton, MI and Residential Hospice, Rev. Daniel Smith and the Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church family, Pastor Brian Willingham and Charity United Methodist Church family, and to Lawrence E. Moon and his staff.
