Mrs. Effie Reaves

REAVES, Mrs. Effie - Age 82, passed away Monday, March 13, 2017 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, March 24, 2017 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Chapel 10:00 AM. Mrs. Reaves will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed 12:00 PM-8:00 PM on Thursday with family present to receive friends from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM. Mrs. Effie Lee Reaves was born August 29, 1934 in Shuqualak, Mississippi, the daughter of Lee Taggart and Sephronia Hudson. She was one of four children born to this union. On the 14th day of October, 1950 she was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Dean Ray Russell and to this union three children were born, Diana, Donald and Dean Russell. She later married Mr. Leonard James Whiteside and to this union three children were born, Leonard Jr., Phyllis and Antoine Whiteside. Effie married a third time to Mr. Harrel Joseph Reaves and to this union one child was born, Carlos Reaves. She attended St. Clair County, Illinois Public Schools and was employed at Cromers Restaurant in downtown Flint for many years. Effie was also formally employed at AC Spark Plug, a division of General Motors for 20 years. She had many hobbies which included knitting, sewing, shopping and playing cards. Effie also enjoyed listening to old school music, watching her soap operas on TV and playing the lottery. Mrs. Effie L. Reaves leaves to cherish her memory: children, Diana Valley, Donald (Susie) Russell, Antoine (Alice) Whiteside, all of Flint, Dean (Carolyn) Russell of Flushing, MI, Phyllis Golden of Las Vegas, NV, Leonard Whiteside of Belleville, IL, Carlos Reaves of Antioch, CA and Kendall E. Reaves of Mansfield, TX; 31 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews including special nephews, Raymond (Belinda) Taggart, Maurice (Carolyn) Taggart; other relatives and friend including special friends, Ms. Mary Smiley “Big Mae”, Ms. Edna Stone, Mr. William McCullough and Ms. Ethel who worked at Cromers Restaurant. She departed this life on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Hurley Medical Center. Mrs. Reaves was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harrel Joseph Reaves; grandson, Donald Russell; parents, Lee Taggart and Sephronia Hudson; sister, Jessie Lee Taggart; brothers, Daniel and Tommy Taggart. The family would like to express special thanks to Hurley Medical Center 4th Floor staff, Dr. Khalil A. Katato MD, Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute, Dr. Elmahdi Saeed MD, Hurley Plaza, Torjian Johnson and caregiver, Mr. Carolyn Russell.
