WALKER, Mrs. Edna, Age - 86, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Willow of East Lansing. Family hour 10:30 AM Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Promise Tabernacle Church, 815 W. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing st 11:00 AM Pastor Frederick Flowers, officiating. Interment, Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Tuesday. Mrs. Walker will lie in state in the state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Monday. In the vibrant tapestry of Edna Lee (Jefferson) Walker’s life every thread was woven with boundless energy, fiery passion and a quick wit that lit up every room she entered. Born on August 20, 1937, in Forest, Mississippi, she danced through life with a spark that never dimmed, until she peacefully passed away on September 30, 2023, surrounded by her adoring family. At 86 years old, she left a legacy of love that will forever echo in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Edna, the beloved daughter of Lucen and Lilie Mae (Keaton) Jefferson, was raised by her maternal grandparents, Elroy and Fannie Smith in Jackson, Mississippi. There she honed the kind, fiery and compassionate spirit that would define her life. In her youth, she met her partner in life, Ozell Walker, and together they embarked on a journey that spanned 47 years of marriage. Their love story found its home in Flint, Michigan, where they nurtured five remarkable children. Edna’s devotion knew no bounds, her children are a testament to her loving care and indomitable guidance. She was a force of nature, combining her passions seamlessly. Family gatherings were a symphony of laughter, joy, and the mouthwatering aroma of her culinary creations, with a crumb cake always in the oven for her beloved grandchildren. Edna’s faith was the foundation of her life. Baptized at an early age, she walked hand in hand with Jesus Christ. During a hospital stay in the early years of living in Flint, Edna met the pastor’s wife of Golden Leaf Baptist Church, now known as Promise Tabernacle Church. After accepting an invitation to a Sunday service, Edna found solace and strength within the walls of Promise Tabernacle and made it her home for over 60 years. Edna loved her church community immensely and poured her heart into the church, serving on the Mother Board, lending her voice to the choir, working in the finance department, and infusing love into every dish she prepared for the kitchen committee. Her unwavering faith and loyalty were an inspiration to all who knew her. Yes, faith was Edna’s compass in life, but it was her family that ignited the brightest flames within her. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the stars in her sky, and she their unwavering North Star. Whether sewing or indulging in her favorite pastime of “junking”, Edna embraced life with zest and zeal. Edna Walker’s legacy is etched in faith, love, and tireless service to her family, church, and community. Her memory will forever dance in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Although Edna is reunited with her beloved husband, Ozell Walker, daughter, Deborah Jefferson, parents, Lucen and Lillie Mae Jefferson, siblings, Ida Mae and Charles, and maternal grandparents, Elroy, and Fanny Smith who have gone before, her spirit lives on in the laughter and love of her children, Michael (Cynthia) Walker of Southfield MI, Jeffrey (Kim) Walker of Mesquite, TX, Margaret Walker of Mesquite, TX , Jackie Walker of Lansing, MI, Robert Hines of Flint, MI; grandchildren, Morrie (Monita) Hines, Mallory (Kenny) Applewhite, Mychal Walker, Evan Walker, Brandyn Jacquelyn Walker, Kylie Walker, and Daquiri (Keisha) Hines; Great-grandchildren, Montez, Kyla, Kayson, Mori Ann, Ivy, Princeton, Thalia, Maddison, Mychal Jr., Makye, Mason and Mya; and in the hearts of a wide circle of relatives and friends.
