Mother Edna Lou Humphrey

HUMPHREY, Mother Edna Lou - Age 81, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, October 13, 2023, at Harris Memorial Church of God In Christ, 4317 Lippincott Blvd., Burton, MI with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Superintendent Eric C. Bogan, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:00 AM Friday. Mother Humphrey will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Thursday with family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Edna Lou Nealy was born on August 1, 1942 in Scooba, Mississippi to Howard and Fannie Nealy, Sr. She was the 6th child of seven children born to this union. As a child, her family relocated to Illinois. Edna attended Lincoln High School in East St. Louis, Illinois where she received her diploma. Upon graduating, she traveled to New York where she worked at the VA hospital. She later planted roots in Michigan. She worked at Darby Records when she first moved to Flint. She eventually gained employment at General Motors Fisher Body Plant from 1977-1987. Edna was blessed to give birth to 3 sons; Gerard, Jesse, and Theodore. Whom she loved, nurtured and brought them up as it is written in Ephesians 6:4, “in the fear and admonition of the Lord”. She was also blessed to have a special devoted spiritual and loving daughter, in the person of Dazarine Taylor. She was a loving and devoted wife for 25 years to the late Elder Eddie B. Humphrey. To those who really knew her, found her to be extremely humorous and fun to be around. She also enjoyed gardening and loved her lawn to be full of bright colored flowers. She wore the ornaments of a meek and quiet spirit (1 Pet 3:3-4). However, she also adorned herself in classy, yet modest apparel (1 Tim 2:9). Mother Humphrey was a graceful woman who was admired by many. She was an true example of godliness and elegance. On February 14, 1974 Edna was saved and received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost at Harris Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Superintendent Theodore R. Harris, and continued her growth in the Lord under the late Bishop Walter E. Bogan, Sr. and her current Pastor, Superintendent Eric C. Bogan. Mother honored and respected all of her spiritual leaders. Mother was a loyal and committed member and actively involved in the work of the church. She was selected for our Membership NETwork Team, Altar Guild, Minister’s Wives Circle, Mother’s Board, and Local Jail Ministry. She also served in the Hospitality Unit and prepared the potato salad weekly for our Friday dinners. She was a licensed Evangelist Missionary in the Church of God in Christ, Inc. Her true passion was the Intercessory Prayer Ministry where she was one of the leaders and participated on the front line within the local church, the Progressive and Koinonia District, and in the Great Lakes First Jurisdiction. She reached thousands through her GodSpace social media outlet. She was a prayer warrior who dedicated her life to prayer and defined 1 Thessalonians 5:17 where it admonishes us to pray without ceasing. Her mornings started very early, where she sought the Lord and offered prayers daily on behalf of many people across the country over the telephone and various media outlets. A few of Mother’s favorite sayings “I’m Blessed and Highly Favored!” “I’m Too Blessed to be Stressed!” And “My God is The Best!” It was Sunday Morning on September 24th, when the Lord allowed Mother Edna Humphrey to rise early, put on her holy garments, drove herself to church where she walked inside the ladies lounge and took a seat on the bench before the enemy attacked her body. Mother Humphrey often told others that, “I’m going to Heaven from Harris Temple”. Although her body was afflicted she kept the faith, and prayed in the spirit on her way to the hospital. The Lord saw fit to prolong her days, long enough for her family to arrive from out of town. Ten days later, Mother passed away from this life to life eternal on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at McLaren Hospital with her family and dear friends by her side. She was preceded in death by Husband; Elder Eddie B. Humphrey. Father; Howard Nealy, Sr. and Mother; Fannie Nealy. Stepmother; Ida Nealy. Brothers; Earnest Nealy, Howard Nealy and George Nealy. She leaves to cherish her memory three sons: Elder Gerard Nealy, Sr. of Valencia, CA. Jesse (Michelle) Files, Jr. of Ellenwood, GA and Elder Theodore Files of Mt. Morris, MI. 2 Brothers: James (Carolyn) Nealy of Albuquerque, NM. Herman (Pamela) Nealy of Flint, MI. 1 Sister, Fannie (Edmund) Baker of Portsmouth, VA. 7 Grandchildren: Gerard Nealy, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA. Jesse Files, III of San Antonio, TX. Gerrell Nealy of Glendale, CA. Julian Nealy of Las Vegas, NV. Jalissa Nealy of Santa Clarita, CA. Camille Files and Joie Files of Ellenwood, GA . 2 Great-Grandchildren: Zyell Nealy and Jeriah Files. Along with a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews and dear friends including: Special Son: Kevin Haney. Special Daughters: Sandra Nealy and Dazarine Taylor. Special Nephew, Michael Nealy Baker. Special Cousin: Ruth Sullivan. Special Friends: Cynthia Stone, Evelyn Knox, Ann Butler, Denise Williams, Alice Bogan. Special Personal Nurse Pamela Young and especially Elder Carl & Deloris Hawkins. The family would also like to extend special appreciation to Supt Eric C. Bogan & First Lady Karleen Bogan and the Harris Memorial Church Family. Bishop Roger L. Jones, Sr. & First Lady Sandra Jones and the Greater Holy Temple Church Family. Also, the ICU Nurses at McLaren Hospital.
