Earnest Perkins

PERKINS, Bro. Earnest - Age 71, gained the victory when he went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 29, 2005 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10AM Saturday, May 7, 2005 at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 4805 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM. Pastor Henry Fuller officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Saturday. Bro. Perkins will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Bro. Earnest Perkins began this journey of life on December 28, 1933 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the son of James and Berthola Bell Perkins. He grew up there and attended the Public Schools. After arriving in Flint in 1953, he became employed at Chevrolet Manufacturing, a division of General Motors, from which he retired after 38 years of service. His spiritual journey began at an early age when he accepted Christ as his personal Savior, and was baptized. Continuing his walk with the lord after coming to Flint, he united with the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where he served faithfully as an usher until his illness. Traveling was his great passion. He was united in marriage to Ada Butler in 1954, and from that union 2 children were born. Bro. Earnest Perkins leaves to cherish his memory: son, Earnest Perkins, Jr.; 2 grandsons, Gamel and Yaree Perkins; granddaughter, Tenessha Martin, all of Chicago, IL; 4 brothers, James (Geraldine) Perkins, Jr. of Flint, Joe (Sherrion) Perkins of Pine Bluff, AR, Lawrence Perkins and Jesse Perkins, both of Milwaukee, WI; 5 sister, Irene Page, Eva Perkins, Ann Perkins, all of Flint. Helen Perkins of Pine Bluff, AR, and Doris King of Milwaukee, WI; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Willie Johnson, Minnie Pearl Keel and Ollie Fryer. Special thanks to the staff of Heartland Manor, Hurley Medical Center and McLaren Regional Medical Center, Pastor Henry L. Fuller and the Mt. Calvary family. Preceding him in death are his parents, James and Berthola Perkins; daughter, Deborah Perkins; 2 brothers, Floyd and Bonnie Perkins; and sister, Buelah Brown.
