Earlean Dukes

DUKES, Mrs. Earlean (Miller)- Age 75, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2005 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10AM Saturday, June 11, 2005 at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 4805 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11AM. Dr. Henry L. Fuller, Jr., officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Saturday. Mrs. Dukes will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed after 12Noon Friday. Mrs. Earlean (Miller) Dukes was born February 23, 1930 in Jayess, Mississippi to Mr. Claude Harness and Ms. Eulia Mae Gutter. She moved to Muskegeon, MI in 1944, then relocated to Flint in 1947 and married Jerry Miller in 1951. To this union two sons were born, Jerry Miller, Jr. and Christopher W. Miller. Earlean was well known throughout the Flint area and among her church members as a woman of grace, style and always being well dressed. In the 1960's Earlean began making hats as a hobby, and soon began to get requests from women from all over the Flint area. Her hobby quickly evolved into a flourishing business and she began to sell her custom handmade hats throughout the 1960's and early 1970's. Earlean was also a member of U.A.W. Local #326, retiring after 18 years of service from Fisher Body Coldwater (Turnstedt) a Division of General Motors. She was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and faithfully served on the Missionary Board. Earlean leaves to cherish her loving memories: sons, Jerry (Diane) Miller, Jr. of Cincinnati, OH and Christopher W. (Kimberly) Miller of Davison, MI; 4 sisters, Delores Davis, Eunice Harness, Sylvia Ross and Hattie Otis, 4 brothers, W.C. (Bill), Curtis Ray, Brent and Eugene Harness all of CA; 9 grandchildren, Kellie, Brittney, Whitney and Shaquille Miller, Tymyra and Tenniell Agee, Baylon & Nicholas Harper and Christopher Hall, 7 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special cousins, Nettie Grace Green, Betty Brown, Sarah Hill and Nell Ulmer all of Flint, MI, Florene Hampton of Muskegon, MI; special friends, Callie Miller and Loretta Eason of Flint, MI; former daughter-in-law, Robin Miller and the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church Family. Mrs. (Miller) Dukes was preceeded in death by her parents, Claude Harness and Eulia Mae Gutter; brother, Bishop John L. Sanders; former husband Willie Dukes; 4 aunts and 4 uncles. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Henry L. Fuller, Jr. and the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church Family, Lawrence E. Moon and staff, Bishop International Airport and the Genesee County Sheriff's Department.
