Mr. Earl Junius Turner

TURNER, Mr. Earl Junius - age 67, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Heartland Hospice-Lapeer, MI. Family hour 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at First Union Baptist Church, 7004 Fleming Rd. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Rev. Archie Powell officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Tuesday. Mr. Turner will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Mr. Turner was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Marines. Mr. Earl Junius Turner was born on February 1, 1947 in Bolivar, Tennessee, the son of Lonzo Blake and Ada Turner. Earl came to Flint at the age of 15 and later graduated from Flint Northwestern, “Class of 1966.” He joined the U.S. Marines in 1967; he was as a Vietnam War Veteran, where he received a Purple Heart and Silver Star. Earl worked at Chevrolet Truck and Bus, a division of General Motors, in the late 1960’s and was employed with Buick City from 1978-2009 and a member of UAW Local #599. He united in Holy Matrimony on February 14, 1994 to the late Nancy Yvette Jones. Earl was a faithful husband, father and friend and was always willing to help anyone in need. Mr. Earl Junius Turner leaves to cherish his memory: children, Natasha Gist-Breed of Georgia and Sharron Terrell of Jackson, MS; step children, Cassandra (Harold) Gilmore of Atlanta, GA and Orlando (Darla) Jones of AL; 5 grandchildren, Eric Osborn of Flint, Alexis, Marco, and Jalen Breed, all of Atlanta, GA and Bryce Terrell of Jackson, MS; 4 great-grandchildren, Erinae, Erianah, Eric Jr., and Erion, all of Flint ; 2 nieces, Anndrell Russell and Larashia Jones; 8 nephews, Wayne Jr., Lawrence and Sabin Blake, Kirk Jr. , Dion Williams, Blake, Brandon McEwen and Llewellyn Jones II; 4 sisters, Carolyn (Jimmy) Nicholson, Vanessa and Laurie Blake, all of Flint and Tracy McEwen of Columbus, OH; brother, Lonzo Blake Jr. of Flint; 2 great nieces, Leandra and Zariaha; 2 great nephews, Darrell Hendricks and Llewellyn Jones III; 4 aunts, Lillian (Robert) Jones of Middleton, TN and Lorce Blake of Flint Martha and Maleen Turner both of Bolilvar, TN; numerous cousins; 6 sisters-in-law, Regina Blake of Flint, Ms. Lana Brown of Rainbow City, AL, Ms. Connie Witfield, Ms. Lakishia Bell, Elecia (William) Reeves, all of Hobson City, AL and Ms. Velissa (Larry) Wright of Due West, SC; 4 brothers-in-law, Frederick Brown of Gadsden, AL, Recardo, Wayne and Edmond Jones of Flint, and Everett (Mary) Jones of Seneca, SC; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Claddy Blassingame, Clifton Baye, Barbara Smith; special cousins, Gregory Thompson, Lynn Blake, Clifton and Burnette Bay. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by: his wife, Nancy Turner; mother, Ada Turner; father, Lonzo (Mollie) Blake; and 2 brothers, Wayne and Lawrence Blake.
