Mr. Earl Wayne Stephens

STEPHENS, Mr. Earl - Age 79, passed away Monday, January 23, 2023 at his residence. Family hour 1:00 PM Wednesday, February1, 2023 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with Memorial service commencing at 2:00 PM, Rev. Sam Stephens, officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the Funeral Home 1:00 PM Wednesday. As his final wish, Mr. Stephens’ remains have been gifted to The Howard University College of Medicine. Earl Wayne Stephens went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 23, 2023. Born and raised in Hosston, Louisiana, as the second oldest of 12 living children, Earl attended Mary Thomas Baptist Church and accepted the Lord as his Savior at nine years old. He joined the Air Force in October 1962 and he graduated from Herndon High School in 1963. In 1966, he met his wife, Ceatrice Stephens of Kiblah, AR and was married on June 10, 1967. Earl began his career at General Motors as an assembly worker in 1966. He later obtained his Associate Degree in Industrial Controls Technology from Mott Community College in 1978 and was promoted to Machine Repairman. He retired from Buick in 1999 after 32 years of service. Earl had a life-long dedication to his community and his church. He served as a Deacon at Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years. He was a member of the Flint Chapter of Jack and Jill for over 15 years and was voted Family of the Year in 1982. Also, he was an active member of many organizations for many years and served in various roles, including: The Greater Flint Afro-American Hall of Fame, Boy Scouts Troop No. 27 Troop Leader, Genesee County Democratic Party Black Caucus, NAACP, the Veteran Committee of UAW Local #599 and the Security Credit Union credit committee. Earl Stephens was raised in John W Stevenson Lodge No. 56 F&AM-PHA in 1988. He served as Worshipful Master of John W Stevenson Lodge No. 56 in 1996. He served as Illustrious Commander-in-Chief of Saginaw Valley Consistory No. 72, A.A.S.R.-PHA in 2003 and was elevated to the 33rd and last degree of Masonry in 2006. He served as Illustrious Potentate of Oman Temple No. 72 in 1997. He served as Right Worshipful District Deputy Grand Master for District 7 of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Michigan, Free and Accepted Masons. He also served as Imperial Desert Organizer for the Desert of Michigan, Prince Hall Shriners of the A.E.A.O.N.M.S. of North and South America and its Jurisdiction, Inc. Earl enjoyed traveling globally, working on automobiles, golfing, fishing, photography and hunting. Earl Wayne Stephens leaves to cherish his memories: daughter, Latricia Stephens (Marc C. Turner) of Westfield, NJ; son, Royce Stephens of Flint, MI; four grandchildren, Christian, Dy’Man, Kaelyn and Madison, and one great-grandchild McKenzie; and eight siblings, Addie Robinson, Jerlyn Jackson (Joe), Clarice Stephens, Georgia Jackson (Jerry), Sam Stephens, Paul Stephens (Viola), Clarencetta Stephens and Martin Stephens (Angela); a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Earl was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Ceatrice Williams; sister, Willie Mae (Cousazy Sr.), brothers Joe Stephens (Cynthia) and James Stephens (Gail).
