Mrs. Dorothy Jean Phifer-Callaway

PHIFER-CALLAWAY, Mrs. Dorothy Jean - Age 62, passed away Monday, April 26. 2021 at Hurley Medical Center Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church, 2220 W. Coldwater Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Jessie McIntosh, officiating. Interment Gracelawn Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:30 AM Saturday. Ms. Callaway will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Friday. Dorothy Jean Phifer Callaway was born November 29, 1958 in Woodville, Texas. The daughter of the late Clifton Sr. and Velma Phifer. Dorothy later moved to Flint, Michigan and resided there until God gently whispered in her ear and called her to eternal rest. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. When she relocated to Flint, she joined New Heaven M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Fred White. She was a member of the choir and pantry mission ministry. She attended Woodville Public Schools and graduated from Woodville High School in 1976. She was employed at Pro Clean, Diamond Linen, and she provided private childcare services. Dorothy was a creative braider and could press hair like none other. She loved playing bingo, cards, fishing, and family gatherings. Dorothy was an amazing cook. Dorothy Jean Phifer Callaway leaves to cherish her fond memory, husband: Craig Callaway of Flint, MI.; two sons: Darnell (Tiffany Crain) Phifer and DeMarrio (Tamika Walker) Phifer both of Flint, MI.; one step-son: Craig Callaway of Flint, MI.; three grandchildren: Shariah Phifer, Avrienna Donaldson, and DeMarrio Phifer Jr. all of Flint, MI.; one great-grandson: Jaquan Johnson; five sisters: Bertha Fant of Woodville, TX., Thelma Maxie, special sister and best friend, Velma Louise Phifer both of Flint, MI., Diana Walker of Woodville, TX., and Jill Walker of Flint, MI.; three brothers: Clifton Phifer of Woodville, TX., Robert (Vanessa)Phifer, and favorite brother Anthony (Tonya) Phifer both of Austin, TX.; one aunt: Dorothy Bizzle of St. Louis, MO.; one uncle: Harold Hudson of Arkedelphia, AR.; five sister -in-laws: Sheila Walker, Bernice Nard, Cheryl Callaway, Valerie Callaway, and Vicki Callaway; special friends: Bertha Burns, Phyllis Johnson, Taji Jones, Petrina Golden, and Ms. Eva; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Dorothy Jean Phifer Callaway was preceded in death by her parents: Clifton Sr. and Velma Phifer; brother: Verlon Walker; sisters: Junnie Chattmon and Audrey Phifer; father and mother-in-law: Theo and Sylvia Callaway; brother-in-laws: Leon Fant, Lugene Maxie Sr., Ricky Owens, Jerome Johns, Roy Chattmon, and Bernard Walker. The family would like to extend sincere expressions of gratitude to Pastor Jessie D. McIntosh and the King Solomon Baptist Church, Pastor Frederick Wilkes, Hurley Intensive Care Unit, and Kayonna Ferguson.
