Mrs. Dorothy Lee Harris

HARRIS, Mrs. Dorothy Lee - age 70, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2013 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Friday. Mrs. Harris will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 3-8 p.m. Thursday. Mrs. Dorothy Lee Harris was born January 17, 1943 in Lake Providence, Louisiana to Will Brown, Sr., and Hattie Richardson. Dorothy moved to Peoria, Illinois and was united in marriage to Charles Massey, May 24, 1963, they later divorced. During her time in Peoria she attended Rising Sun Baptist Church and New Hope Church, where she was an active member. She was employed with Bishop Buffet as a Baker. She later moved to Flint, Michigan, February 3, 1987. Dorothy worked at Herriman’s Family Restaurant as a cook and later at Magna Electronics, retiring in 2008. She attended St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, giving her life back to Christ. Dorothy was active with the Senior Usher Board, serving faithfully. Her favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalms. She loved and enjoyed the accomplishments of her children and 8 grandchildren. Dorothy also enjoyed spending life in retirement, hanging out with Trena, as she would surprise her with their many outings, especially walking to the exercise facility hand in hand. Mrs. Dorothy Lee Harris leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Harry Harris, Jr. of Peoria, IL; 5 children, Regina R. Brown of Phoenix, AZ, Charles E. Massey of Wichita Falls, TX, Derrick Massey of Arlington, TX, Wanda K. Muhammad of Phoenix, AZ and Trena Y. Massey of Flint; 14 grandchildren, Jacobi S. Brown, Arian N. Muhammad, Laderria D. Mack, Verinique Massey, Alisa Harris, Kalii A. Massey, Jamere Massey, Ali Brown, Derrick Massey, Jr., Malaika Massey, Kiara Massey, Quadriyah Muhammad, Taim Muhammad, Khakirah Muhammad; 8 great grandchildren; 7 sisters, Margaret Tinsley of Minnesota, Barbara Carrier, Houston, TX, Marie Parrott, Evelyn Gonzales, Marilyn Ellis, Ola Harrison, Broze Simien; brother, Willie Davis of Peoria, IL; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including the Beaumont, Texas family, Mary Hampton and Sisters of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her parents, Hattie Richardson Parrott and Will Brown, Sr.; grandson, Jaquese Massey; grandparents, Rener Wiley and Frank Richardson, Sr.; brother, George Parrott; and sister, Minnie Devault.
