BOYCE, Mrs. Dorothy Ann - Age 68, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at Kith Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation. Family hour 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Vernon Chapel A.M.E. Church, 5802 Dupont St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Douglas Banks, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 25, 2025. Mrs. Boyce will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed Monday, February 24, 2025 from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Dorothy Ann Boyce was born on October 26,1956 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Eddie Johnson and LaDorothy Johnson-Scull. Dorothy attended Dewey Elementary, Bryant Junior High and Northwestern High School in Flint, Michigan. While furthering her education Dorothy attended Michigan Computer Institute, Detroit College of Business & Jordan College. She was a member of Greater Galilee Baptist Church where she taught Youth Bible Study and served in the Choir. She later became a member of the North Star Missionary Baptist Church. Dorothy was a member of two Fraternal Organizations, from her childhood she was a member of the American Legion Dorie Miller Post #306 Auxiliary, which her parents helped charter in 1959; until her recent passing she was the Auxiliary Historian. Dorothy was also a member and Secretary of the Dr. George Washington Carver, VFW #8236 Auxiliary, which is no longer active. Prior to retirement Dorothy was employed as a receptionist with Newkirk Electric Associates, Inc., She was also employed with GMSPO, Michigan Transit Authority as well as Warren Optical. Due to her love of music, she worked as a waitress & bartender at several local entertainment venues throughout the years. Dorothy loved to dance and was always up on the latest moves; she was a Jazz and Blues vocalist and graced the stage with her beautiful voice in the following productions at McCree Theater: “Maxine Powell”, “Black Nativity”, “Christmas is coming Uptown”, and “Somebody Say Amen”; Snap Productions “Mama Don’t” with Mike Matthews; and the 1992 play “Save Yourself Sister”, directed by Sterline Lacy. Dorothy not only loved to sing but she studied, wrote & enjoyed music all the way through her years. Even In her final days she could be found gracing those around her with her voice & love of music which they enjoyed. Dorothy Ann Boyce leaves to cherish her beautiful memory: 2 children; daughter, Lolita L. Boyce and son, Larry E. Boyce, Jr., both of Flint, MI; 10 grandchildren, Vance Griffis, Jr., Desiree Boyce, Bryanna Boyce-Walker, Gregory Anderson, Larry Boyce III, Shiloh (Elena Deleon) Boyce, Sr., Elijah (Maggie Kibbe) Boyce, Arielle Boyce, Valencia Boyce and Jade Boyce; 7 great-grandchildren, Eric, Karter, Dakota, Dionna, Vance III, Kali and Isaiah; 4 sisters, Priscilla Jean (Scott) Jenkins of Flint, Yolanda (Pastor Harold) Austin, Vivian Gayles of Grand Blanc, MI, and Delores Johnson of Port Huron, MI; brother, Wardell L. Johnson of Tacoma, Washington; 8 nieces, Audrey Lynn Golden, Nicolia Golden of Flint, Marvella Johnson of Mt. Morris, MI, Chantel (Charles) Jenkins-Modiano of Silver Springs, MD, Moieshae Jenkins of Savannah, GA, Norlicia Robertson of Nashville, TN, Andrea Janelle (Winston) McGhee-Chestnut of Grand Blanc, MI, and Cierra (Kindre) Williams of Evans Mill, NY.; 4 nephews, Samanzio Jenkins of Kansas City, MO, Andre Johnson of San Pedro, CA, Terry (LaChrista) Wilson of Jennings, MO, and Dale McGhee Jr. of Boston, MA.; cousins, Purches and Johnson Families; many great and great-great nieces and nephews survive. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie Johnson and LaDorothy Johnson-Scull; sisters, Eddie Mae Golden and Shirley Ann Johnson; in-laws, Percy Lee & Bernice Boyce; nephews, Roosevelt Wilson and Richard Johnson.
