THOMAS, Mrs. Doris Letitia - Age 80, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, February 8, 2025 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Michael Gibson, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Chapel 10:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Thomas will lie in state in the chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home. Public visitation will be during family hour only. Doris Letitia Thomas, affectionately known as Ma Vit, the cherished matriarch of the Thomas family, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025. Her presence was a beacon of strength, her love boundless, and her wisdom unparalleled. Doris had an innate ability to lift others with her words and actions, always ensuring those around her felt seen, valued, and supported. She carried herself with integrity, grace, dignity, decency, and virtue. Her faith, tenacity, and courage were extraordinary. To her family and friends, she was more than just a loved one; she was the real-life embodiment of a superhero who inspired others with her resilience, persistence, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to the people she loved. Born on December 14, 1944 in Crawford, Mississippi to Mr. Joe Marshall Brooks and Mrs. Mattie B. Brooks, Doris’ life was a testament to determination, ambition, and selfless devotion. In the 1960s, she made the courageous decision to leave Mississippi and forge a new path in Flint, MI, where she began her career in General Motors. With endurance and an unshakeable resolve, she dedicated decades of service to the company before retiring, having built a life centered on faith and family. Alongside her career, Doris was a woman of many interests and passions. She pursued higher education and earned her cosmetology license, a reflection of her lifelong commitment to learning and self-improvement. She was a devoted member of Greater Paradise Missionary Baptist Church, where she found spiritual fulfillment and community. Doris also found joy in life’s simple pleasures—she loved watching The Price is Right, Family Feud, movies, and sports. She also relished the excitement of visiting the casino. She found joy in the thrill of the games and shared laughs about “giving the people her money.” Through all of her interests, she embraced life fully, bringing laughter, wisdom, and warmth to those around her. Doris approached every role she held with unmatched heart and care—whether as a loving mother, wife, protective sister, or loyal friend. Her thoughtful and discerning nature made her the go-to person for advice and wisdom. She served as a constant pillar of guidance and faith in the lives of those who knew her. Doris poured herself into her family, always ensuring that they had the tools and encouragement to succeed. Her children were her pride and joy. She pushed them to reach their fullest potential in every endeavor they pursued. She celebrated their successes as if they were her own and encouraged others around her to strive for greatness, never settling for anything less than their best. Her legacy is a testament to the lives she uplifted, the values she instilled, and the love that she so generously and continuously offered. Doris had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel valued and supported, a gift that touched countless lives. She possessed an extraordinary sense of empathy and intuition, often knowing exactly what someone needed—whether it was a kind word, a listening ear, or an act of kindness that spoke directly to their heart. She never hesitated to go out of her way for others, demonstrating her love through thoughtful gestures, big and small. From cooking a favorite meal to offering heartfelt advice, she showed her care in ways that made a lasting impact. Her life was a testament to the power of love, support, and connection, and her impact will continue to ripple through the lives of those she touched. Doris Letitia Thomas is survived by: her husband of 49 years, Mr. Charles Thomas Sr.; beloved children, Dr. Charles Thomas Jr. (Mrs. Manthanee Thomas) and Ms. Clara Thomas; sister, Ms. Priscilla Turner; and brothers, Mr. John Brooks (Renee Brooks), Mr. Albert Brooks, Mr. Joe Louis Brooks, Mr. Fred Tolon (Jeanette Tolon), and Mr. Robert Bell (Nancy Bell). She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Mr. Jerome Turner, and her heart daughters, Ms. Fra Thomas, Ms. Latoya Thomas, Ms. Jackie Thomas, and Ms. Cintronella Dixon. She leaves behind a legacy of love cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren (Masani, Makhai, Malcolm, DaJanee’, SonSaree’), great grand-daughter (Oaklynn), extended family, and friends. The family would like to extend special thanks to Ms. Mary Brooks, Ms. Kathy Baker, Mrs. Janice Williams, Mrs. Lena Armstrong, Mrs. Wanda Giles, and Dr. Danish and Staff for all of their efforts and love that they extended to Doris during her time of need. She loved you and knew that you loved her. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Joe Brooks and Ms. Mattie Brooks; sisters, Mrs. Mary Helen Jennings (Mr. Palmer Jennings) and Ms. Yvonne Brooks; and her brothers, Mr. Joe Marshall Brooks and Mr. John (Dee) Brooks. Although she will be deeply missed, the love that Doris poured into the world will continue to shine through the lives that she touched. Her legacy of faith, strength, and steadfast devotion to family will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
