Dora Garvins

GARVINS, Mrs. Dora - Age 73, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2008 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Family hour 1:30PM Monday, July 14, 2008 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2PM. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30PM Monday. Mrs. Garvins will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10AM-8PM Sunday. Mrs. Dora L. Garvins was born April 22, 1935 in Smithville, GA, the daughter of Lillie and Joe Stewart. Dora was Baptist at an early age at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. Ira Watkins. She was a graduate of Flint Northern High School. Dora worked for Hurley Medical Center for 15 years and later worked for Fisher Body Plant Local 1292 a division of General Motors. Her hobbies were roller-skating, dancing, watching game shows (Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune), reading the bible and novels, cooking homemade rolls and soul food dinners for family gatherings. Mrs. Dora L. Garvins leaves to cherish her memory: loving husband and caregiver, Charles Garvins; daughter, Cassandra Garvins; 5 sons, Kevin, Darrell, Terrence, Wade and Anthony Garvins all of Flint; step-son, Deandre Walton of Flint; 5 grandchildren, Demetriuss, Darnell, Anthony, Jr., Daquell and Kayonna; 3 great-grandchildren, Kalizjah, Destinee and LaRon; sister, Ms. Dorothy Hawkins of Flint; 2 sisters-in-law, Ida Lee Tyler of Saginaw, MI and Betty (Calvin) Maberry of Flint; 3 brothers-in-law, Sam Garvins of Flint, Douglas (Stella) Garvins of Arizona, Elder and Mrs. Hubert (Gwendolyn) Dixon of Montgomery, AL; 2 aunts-in-law, Josephine Powell, Annie Wagner both of Flint; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friends, Ms. Dorothy Hawkins and Ms. Shirley McLaurin. Mrs. Dora L. Garvins was preceded in death by mother, Lillie Stewart-Young; stepfather, Fred Young; father, Joe Stewart; brother, James Stewart; sister, Jessie Mae Hammett; grandson, Latrayl Garvins; and Katherine Holt-Garvins. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Braver, Dr. Osama, Kith Haven Nursing Home and Staff, Davita Dialysis at Hurley Medical Center, McLaren Regional Hospital Emergency Room Nurse that was with Dora while she made her transition.
