ROBINSON, Mr. Donald Ray - Age 74, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Covenant Health Care in Saginaw, MI. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Greater Galilee Baptist Church, 4418 Industrial Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Andre L. Williams Sr. Host Pastor, Pastor Dennis Powell, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and family will assemble at the Church 10:00 AM. Mr. Robinson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-8:00 PM, with the family present from 4:00 PM -7:00 PM Friday. Mr. Robinson was Honorably Discharged from the United States Air Force. Donald Ray Robinson passed away peacefully on the same day the Lord gave him life, but 74 years later, Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Covenant Health Care in Saginaw, Michigan. Donald was born June 7, 1944 in Oswald, Raleigh County, West Virginia, to Calhoun and Catherine (Cousins) Robinson. Donald attended Raleigh County, West Virginia schools graduating from Mount Hope High School in 1963. After high school he served his country by joining the U. S. Air Force (USAF), which included three tours in Vietnam. Don received an honorable discharged from the USAF in 1971, where he returned home to Mt. Hope, WV. He enrolled in the Business Administration program at West Virginia State University (WVSU) while holding down a full time job at Union Carbide Corporation as manager of Maintenance and Distribution, he received his BA in 1977. Donald met Christine McNabb while at WVSU in 1971. They were united in marriage in 1974 in Troy, Alabama (her hometown). Donald and Christine lived in Nitro, West Virginia from the date of their marriage until 1977. In 1977, as a senior at WVSU, Don was recruited by General Motors and there he began his employment as a First Line Supervisor at AC Spark Plug Division. He furthered his education by receiving his MBA from Central Michigan University in 1988. After 27 wonderful years, Don retired as Purchasing Manager from Delphi in 2004. Family and friends were a very important part of Don’s life, he had a wealth of knowledge and always willing to offer encouraging words and advice. He could speak on any subject or situation. He enjoyed cooking, talking politics and sports. Don’s relationship with God came late in life. He was baptized at Grace Tabernacle Missionary Church in 1998 and took gradual steps in learning but when the light came on nobody was more excited than he about the Word of God. He was a faithful servant of the Lord, dedicated to his church, serving in many capacities until his health began to decline in May of 2017. Don was married to Christine for 44 years, she stuck by his side and cared for him until he took his last breath. He is survived by his loving & devoted wife, four sons; Broderick of San Francisco, CA; James of McKinney, Texas; Martavious of Flint, MI and Mirico of Grand Blanc, MI. Six grandchildren, Chasity Robinson of Grand Rapids, MI; Adina, Katherine, James, and Samuel Robinson of McKinney, TX and Tashara Robinson of Flint, MI. Two great granddaughters, Sy’Nia and Sy’Mia English of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Three brothers, Claude J. Robinson (Gloria) and Tyrone S. Robinson (Dovie) of Las Vegas, NV and Stanley Robinson of Indianapolis, IN. Eight Sister-In-Laws, Willie Pearl Lovett, Ola (Jimmie) Jackson, Lillie Perdue, Martha Griffin, Evon Smith, Sarah (Robert) Lipsey, Coretta (Charles) Davis and Janice McNabb; four brother-In-Laws, Joe (Faye) McNabb, Robert (Evelyn) McNabb, Kerry McNabb and Don Wingard. A very special and devoted nephew, Kevin (Rhonda) Robinson of Indianapolis, IN, and several loving nieces and nephews. His long time special and dear friend Joseph (Shirley) Peterson and close friend Demetrius (Catherine) Morgan and many, many other friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, one brother; Samuel, three sisters; Susan M. Mosley, Virginia D. Owens and Barbara Ford and granddaughter Sophia Robinson.
