GAYDEN, Mother Dessie “Dee” - Age 89, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Family hour 10AM Saturday, March 20, 2010 at New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1085 E. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM. Pastor Frederick L. Flowers, Sr. officating. Bishop Odis A. Floyd, host-pastor. Interment Meadoview Memorial Gardens, 3136 N. State Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Saturday. Mrs. Gayden will lie in state at Promise Tabernacle, 815 W. Carpenter Rd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Mother Dessie Gayden “Dee” was born January 27, 1921 in DuValls Bluff, Arkansas, the youngest of nine children born to Lawrence and Nancy Tyms. Mother Gayden has been a resident of Flint for the past 69 years and was a member of Promise Tabernacle Church, where she was a member of the Mother’s Board and where she served the community through the Goldenleaf Neighborhood Services. She loved to cook, bake and sew. Her specialty items were her barbeque sauce, peach cobbler and dinner rolls. On May 12, 1941, Mother Dessie Gayden married Andrew L. “Buster” Gayden, Sr. in Pontiac, Michigan and to this union six children were born. Mother Gayden leaves to cherish her memory: 4 daughters, Yvonne (John) Royster of Detroit, MI, Bethany Gayden and Sharon Holmes both of Grand Blanc, MI and Patricia Mayfield of Flint; 2 sons, Andrew (Nina) Gayden, Jr. of Flushing, MI and Eld. Alvin Gayden of Flint, MI; 4 granddaughters, Deirdre (Kermit) Pitts, Yvette Martin and Monica Holmes all of Flint; and DeAndria Gayden of Arlington, Texas; 6 grandsons, Lonnie (Lavetta) Mayfield of Castaic, CA, Stephen (Consuela) Mayfield of Grand Blanc, MI, Kevin Mayfield of Clinton TWP, MI, Dana (Rasia) Holmes of Flint, Sargent 1st class, Anthony (Richella) Gayden of Korea and Zachary Gayden-Holley of Snellville, GA; 17 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild; aunt, Mrs. Willie Mae Wheat; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and other relatives and dear caring friends and special pet, "Rocky". Mother Gayden was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Andrew L. Gayden, Sr.; mother, Nancy Tyms; father, Lawrence Tyms; 5 sisters, Ophelia, Fannie Lou, Mary Lou, Lettie and CB; 3 brothers, James D, William and Barry.
