JOHNSON, Mr. Derek F. - Age 44, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2015 at Vernon Chapel A.M.E. Church, 5802 Dupont St. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Rev. Byron Moore, Host Pastor. Rev. Roosevelt Brown, Officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Friday. Mr. Johnson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1 p.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Derek Ferrone “Fee” Johnson was born on November 22, 1970 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Louis and Rev. Estella Johnson. Derek graduated from Northern High School in 1989 and was a member of Oman Temple Youth Drill Team. After graduating, Derek enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1989-1993. While in the military, he was called to serve in Operation Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia. Upon his return, he was given an Honorable Discharge. Derek was employed by Swift Trucking Company, a job he greatly enjoyed because it gave him an opportunity to meet a variety of people and to see the world. Derek was a voracious reader; he loved historical and political facts most. He believed in living life to the fullest, and being happy despite the many obstacles life brings. Derek never met a stranger, and was known for helping anyone he came into contact with. He loved to cook and surround himself with family and friends. Derek left this earth too early for us to understand, but God always has a purpose and a plan for His people. Derek will be especially remembered for his comedic antics (even if you were on the receiving end), his vast knowledge of most subjects, but mostly remembered for his love of every family member and friend. Mr. Derek Ferrone “Fee” Johnson leaves to cherish his memory: Lifelong companion, Patricia Meeks; 3 daughters, DarMecia (Don) Snipes, Kiarra and Siarra Johnson; 3 step children, Dominique Bragg, Krystal Powell and De’Andre Matthews; loving parents, Louis and Rev. Estella Johnson; 2 sisters, Min. Angela Williams of Madison, TN, and Arnell (Carnell) Jones of Springdale, AR; 3 brothers, Marcus Johnson of Hermitage, TN, Daryl and Dmitri (Donyelle) Johnson; 4 nieces, Jacke’e Williams, SanToya, Keyonna and Asia Johnson; 6 nephews, Ju’juan and Jameel Williams, Darnell II, Allen, Austin and Dante Johnson; a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and many, many friends including special cousins, LaGreta and Michael Johnson, Vanessa Goodman, Charles Ursery and wife, Catarra Bellamy (Johnson). Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by maternal grandmother, Lucille Lane; and elder brother, Darnell R. Johnson.
