Ms. Denise Renee Allen

ALLEN, Ms. Denise Renee - Age 59, passed away Friday, October 19, 2018 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Word of Life Christian Church, 460 W. Atherton Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor George Wilkinson, officiating and Pastor Donald Hughes, Eulogist, Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:00 Am Saturday. Ms. Allen will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-8:00 PM Friday. Ms. Denise Renee Allen was born April 6, 1959 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Lillian Barbara Allen and John Donaldson. She was a member of Austin Avenue Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Usher and on the Trustee Board. Denise graduated from Flint Northwestern High School, “Class of 1977.” She also graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1999. Denise was employed by the State of Michigan Department of Corrections. In 2002, she was inducted into the Greater Flint Afro-American Hall of Fame for Basketball and Volleyball, and was a 2009 Inductee into the Eastern Michigan University Hall of Fame. She was the Basketball Coach for Flint Central High School from 1985-1995. Denise enjoyed playing cards, Dominos and Po-Ke-No with family and friends, and hosting a birthday party for herself and the children of the family. Ms. Denise Renee Allen leaves to cherish her memory: sister, Samantha Allen; 2 brothers, James Russell Allen and Christopher Ellis ; niece, Petrina Cooper; 2 nephews, James R. Allen II., all of Flint and Jaron Sutton of Mississippi; 5 aunts, Nancy Whetzel of New Castle, PA, Marcy Allen of Martins Ferry, OH, Ina Brown, Margaret Rivers and Glenda Donaldson, all of Wheeling, WV; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Linnell Jones-McKenney, Letitia Hughley, Latisha Berry, Angie Chapman, Patricia Allen and Sherlena Watkins. Ms. Allen was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian Barbara Allen and John Donaldson; grandparents, William and Essie (Calhoun) Allen; brother, John Bruce Allen; aunts, Beatrice Allen, Susie Butler and Dora Dubois; and uncle, William Allen Jr.; and god-daughter, Jameca Boone. The family would like to express special thanks to McLaren-Flint, McLaren Hospice nurses, Sara and Melissa, and friend, Angie Chapman.
