Mrs. Delores Ann Wright-Maberry

WRIGHT-MABERRY, Mrs. Delores Ann - Age 81, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2024 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Church of God, 1513 Kent Street. with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Lawrence Washington, Officiating. Interment, Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Highway. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Wright-Maberry will lie in state and may be viewed during the time of the Service at the Church Saturday, September 21, 2024. Sister Delores Ann Wright-Maberry was born June 3, 1943, to Fred and Frenchie Waters of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She accepted Christ at an early age at the Church of the Living God in Tulsa, OK. Delores completed her formal education in the schools of Tulsa, OK. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Tennessee State University, Nashville, TN. She went on to receive a Master of Arts Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, MI. She retired after 30+ successful years as a teacher at Dailey Elementary School in the Beecher School District. She was a member of the local, state and national Teachers’ Associations. Delores joined The Church of God, Kent Street, Flint MI, under the leadership of the late Pastor Roy Bibbs Jr. She continued as a faithful member throughout her life, serving in many capacities over the years. She took pride in serving in Women of Zion, Church Choir, Usher Board, Sunday School Secretary, Pastor’s Aide President, President of Kitchen Services, Scholarship Committee and Church Announcer when needed. She loved to read poems at church, particularly those written by the late Eunice Maberry, her sister-in-law and sister in Christ. Delores loved Sunday School and discussing the Word of God. She passionately studied the Bible at her church’s Bible Study and she participated in a community based Women’s Bible Study Fellowship, to deepen her understanding of the Bible and her relationship with God. She could also debate anyone on the politics of the day! Delores was a bold, outgoing and courageous woman. Her laugh was infectious! She was an excellent cook and baker, sharing her cakes with friends and relatives. She loved to shop, especially on QVC and most recently on Amazon! She enjoyed traveling with friends, joining them on an Alaskan Cruise, as well as trips to Italy and Hawaii. Fitness was important to her and she was an avid “mall” walker and had a five-day home workout regimen. She will be forever cherished in the memories of her loving and devoted son, Eddie L. Wright Jr. of Detroit, MI; granddaughter Cierra Ross of Avondale, AZ; grandson, Jalen L. Wright of Detroit, MI, great-grandson, Josiah Murray of Avondale, AZ; stepdaughters, Belinda L.(Leslie) Gardner, Debra A. (Terrell) Brinson, and Gwendolyn L. Maberry, all of Jackson, MS; Teressa M. Swan of Terry, MS, and Cheryl A. Maberry of Grand Prairie, TX; stepson, Porter Maberry Jr. of Grand Rapids, MI; brother, Fred Waters Jr. of Tulsa, OK; brothers-in-law, Earl (Herticene) Maberry Jr., of Jackson, MS, Calvin (Betty) Maberry Sr. of Flint, MI; nieces, Victoria (Frank) Garrett, Diana (Arthur) Wright of Flint, MI and Kimberly Maberry of Conyers, GA; nephew, Dexter (Codeona) Johnson of Flint, MI; great-nieces, LaTonya, Jonique and Tasha Donald, Marquita (Leroy) Collins, all of Flint, MI, and Tabitha (Eric) Taylor of Waxahachie, TX; A host of relatives and friends including “special daughter” Abigail Baker, Pearland, TX; special friends, Lillie (M.T.) Ingraham of Greenville, MS, Betty Lamar, Margaret Jones and Edna Toles of Flint, MI; The Church of God, Kent Street Church family. Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Porter L. Maberry Sr.; parents, Fred and Frenchie Waters, step-daughter, Anita Denise Maberry, and stepson-in-law, Glen D. Swan.
