Mrs. Della Mae Tucker

TUCKER, Mrs. Della Mae - Age 90, passed away Friday, June 28, 2024, at Willowbrook Manor. Family hour 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 317 E. Hamilton Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Allen C. Overton Sr., officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Tuesday. Mrs. Tucker will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Monday with family present 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Della Mae Powell was born May 15, 1934, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of John and Anna Powell. Della attended Flint Public Schools, graduating from Flint Central High School in 1952. Della was united in holy matrimony to Benjamin Tucker on June 30, 1962, in Flint, Michigan. She began her career at the Ternstedt Manufacturing Plant on Coldwater Road, a division of General Motors Corporation, retiring after over 30 years of service. Della was a member of Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of the Ophelia Bonner Scholarship Committee, former Kitchen Committee member, Sunday School Class #10, Tuesday evening Bible Study Class, (taught by Deacon Benjamin Tucker and Sister Gloria Jenkins) and was an alto in the Voices of Christ Fellowship choir. Della also sung with the Voices of Caanan Choir. She was a former member of the Flint Branch NAACP, and a founding member of the Tucker and Ward (T & W) Family Club for over 60 years. Della was a Caterer with Just We Three Caterers, alongside Sister Betty Bell and Sister Jannette Jackson. Della was a two-time cancer survivor and, along with Sister Gloria Jenkins and Sister Ella Wright, started a Cancer Support Group in 2004. Della was an exceptionally good seamstress and loved to crochet and make crafts. Della has many surviving friends, including special friends, Mother Gloria Jenkins, Betty Bell, Patsy Strozier, Elizabeth Thompson, and Edward Kahee, all of Flint, MI, Natasha Barnett and Alma Barnett-Starks, both of Huntsville, AL, and Irena Burns of Spring Hill, TN. Della was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Tucker; parents, John and Anna Powell; grandmother, Della Shields; sisters, Jacqueline Nelson and Consuella Williams; brother, Howard Nelson; nephew, Frederick Caldwell; cousins, Harold and Margaret Hayden; and other relatives and friends.The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of McLaren Flint Hospital, Willowbrook Manor (special aide, Sha’Quayla Wright), Rev.
